January 2022 Newsletter
Welcome to the Breaston Pre-School January Newsletter!
Happy New Year!
We hope that you have all had a lovely Christmas break.

Pleased be advised that as educational establishments are allowed to nominate an extra day off for the Jubilee bank holiday that falls outside of term time, we will be taking this on Monday 6th June. All term dates and INSET days can be found on our website and at the bottom of each monthly Parentmail.
Term Topic: Winter
This term we are focusing on the topic of Winter with the children. The display in the back room will be updated with the children's ideas around the things that we see in Winter, and we would love it if parents and carers could get involved too. What we'd like you to do is when you see a "Winter Wonder" (i.e. something wintery like frost or ice), snap a photo together with your child and send it to us, either by uploading it to your child's First Steps account on the Parent Link app or via Facebook messenger to our page.
COVID update and Keyworkers/Critical Workers List
We thank those who kept us informed over the Christmas break of their children and families testing positive for COVID. We hope that everyone recovers/recovered quickly with minimal symptoms. We encourage families to continue testing as per government guidelines to identify asymptomatic cases and stop the spread.
Where family members test positive for the virus but the child attending Pre-School tests negative, the child in question is allowed to attend the setting as per government guidelines for EYFS settings. We do ask that families consider whether their child needs to be at Pre-School in those circumstances and the impact that an outbreak could have on the setting.
As a small setting, all of our children and staff are considered to be a close contact of each other, and as we are currently understaffed any staff absences due to COVID may result in restrictions on how many children can attend/closing the setting.
While we hope that this will not happen, we ask that parents who need childcare in order to work as key or critical workers (and would not be able to manage with the help of family and friends), please fill out the following form: https://forms.gle/BCN5FZyktRerjWuW9
This will enable us to draw up contingency plans for the year ahead, and quickly identify the children of key and critical workers. We thank you for your cooperation and aim to give as much notice as possible of any measures being put into place.
Terracycle Crisp Packet Collection
Thank you to everyone who has brought in their crisp packets this week so far. If you have yet to bring yours in, please make sure that they are brought in by Wednesday 19th January so that we have time to sort and box them up to send to Terracycle.
Did you know that so far we have saved over 9820 crisp packets from landfill so far? This incredible achievement has also raised £50 for resources for Pre-School!
If you miss this term's collection, we will be accepting crisp packets again in the future so keep an eye on future parentmails for details.
 Pick Up Times
The end of the Pre-School day is 3.15pm. We ask that unless you have pre-arranged to pick up your child early, please wait until 3.15 to collect your child. Our closing time is set to allow plenty of time for parents to get to Firfield to pick up siblings.
At the moment, we need a member of staff on the door from 3pm onward to sign out children, taking staff away from the children and from helping to pack away the Pre-School. If possible, please wait until 3.15 when we will release your child to you. You can always let us know by email, telephone, or at drop off that you need to pick up early and we will accommodate this. Thank you.
Christmas Raffle - Thank you!
 Thank you Bev
A huge thank you to Sarah's Aunty Bev for knitting and crocheting an entire new wardrobe for the Pre-School dolls! The children have loved playing with them this week, dressing them up in their fancy new clothes and blankets.
Dressing and undressing dolls requires a lot of fine motor skills (lots of buttons and manipulating doll limbs), can help children learn how to dress themselves, and playing with dolls helps to develop social skills such as empathy and caring for another. Children also engage in imaginative and creative play with the dolls, exploring language and different scenarios. Learning through play!

Photographs can be seen on our Facebook page.

Thank you Simon
Thank you to Simon Bentley for fixing our tray unit! Simon came to our rescue when the wheels buckled on the children's tray unit, advising us and then fitting sturdier wheels.
We're Hiring and Trustees Wanted!
We have a job opportunity available for a qualified level 3 childcare practitioner. If you know anyone who may wish to apply then please direct them to https://uk.indeed.com/job/pre-school-practitioner-0c12363b3596bb5e

As you are aware, Breaston Pre-School CIO is a charity run by three trustees; Sarah, Kelly, and Kayleigh. We are looking to increase the number of trustees to five to increase the skills base and experience of the charity management. Also, Kayleigh would like to train as a level 3 childcare practitioner and work at Pre-School, but the charity must have less than 50% of its trustees employed by the Pre-School. Kayleigh finds her trustee-ship very rewarding and would prefer to stay on as a trustee rather than resign. Ideally, we are looking for a financial trustee and a fundraising trustee, but are also interested in hearing from people with other areas of expertise. Please note that being a trustee is a voluntary position, and you would be required at a minimum to attend Trustee meetings (once a month in term time at most), and to vote on matters pertaining to the running, administration and development of the Pre-School. Trusteeship is a fantastic volunteering opportunity where you can make a real difference to the lives of the children at Pre-School. For more information about being a trustee, please contact either Sarah or Kayleigh. You can also find general information online here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-essential-trustee-what-you-need-to-know-cc3
Please remember to use the email addresses listed at the top of this email if you need to contact us, as this is sent from an unmonitored inbox.

Stay safe and take care,
Breaston Pre-School
