Lift Off: Lead. Connect. Transform.

The University of Rochester's Institutional Office of Equity and Inclusion presents its inaugural equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) leadership summit. It is a gathering of EDI leaders and practitioners to collaborate, learn, and engage around strategies, implementation, and application of bringing together diverse voices committed to transformative environments. 

Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings

The inaugural equity, diversity, and inclusion leadership summit, Lift Off, will feature keynote speaker Gloria Ladson-Billings, president of the National Academy of Education. She is an experienced American pedagogical theorist, educator, leader, and practitioner. Save the date for April 7 for a leadership summit that will inspire, encourage, and transform spaces for institutional and organizational excellence. Call for Workshop Proposals

Workshops provide opportunities for professional development through thoughtful engagement and focused discussions that offer new knowledge and resources. Workshop proposals on any topic relevant to the summit’s attendees—undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and professional students, faculty, and other professionals in and outside of academia.

The deadline to submit a workshop proposal is February 1, 2022 by 5 pm EST. Decisions regarding workshop proposals will be sent by February 25, 2022.

Call for Innovative Spotlights

The call for innovative spotlights is a “twist” to a call for poster presentations; let us embrace our virtual spaces. 

All parties—undergraduate, graduate, doctoral students, post-doctoral scholars, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members—are welcome to participate in the summit’s innovative spotlights presentations. If you have a research project, thesis or dissertation work, or idea or concept, we invite you to utilize the innovative spotlight opportunity to share your work at the summit. The innovative spotlights segment of the summit is a great opportunity to showcase your academic, scholarly, professional, or community action-oriented work and receive feedback.

The deadline to submit an innovative spotlight l is February 8, 2022 by 5 pm EST. Decisions regarding innovative spotlights will be sent by February 25, 2022.

Save the Date: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Address

Presented annually, the commemorative address was instituted in 2001 to promote issues of diversity, freedom, civil rights, and social justice in order to commemorate King’s legacy. The Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA) and the Office of the President host the commemorative address, a kickoff event of Black History Month. 

This event is free and open to the public. The 2022 commemorative address will be held on Friday, January 21. This year’s speaker is Dr. Rheeda Walker, a researcher on mental health and suicide prevention among culturally ethnic peoples. Learn more and register here.
