News from the PTO
“The Gardner School Parent Teacher Organization strives to build and sustain a collaborative support system, driven by parents, guardians and volunteers, to partner with the Gardner School teachers, staff and board in order to provide community and student-related events and activities. The goal is to welcome all members of our community to participate meaningfully at the Gardner School.”

The PTO at Gardner doesn't require any financial commitment to join, and the amount of time spent volunteering is completely up to each individual. However it works for you, there's a way to support the students, staff, and families at the Gardner School!

Parents in the PTO might help with brainstorming ideas, connecting with community vendors, delivering goodies to campus, or organizing volunteers. You can help on campus, or off campus with planning. There are chances to be creative, and chances to contribute time at a variety of levels.

So far this year, our PTO has put on a successful Scholastic Book fair, prepared Halloween party materials for classrooms, shown teacher appreciation, created entryway bulletin boards, shared a holiday gift with families, and planned and executed a pancake breakfast for the entire school. In the upcoming months, we have plans for a community service project, more teacher appreciation, and campus work parties in the Gardner Garden.

COVID-19 Updates

Cases in Clark County continue to rise, and access to testing can be limited. The newest required state guidelines continue the rule for unvaccinated individuals to remain off campus in the case they are a close contact to a Covid-19 positive person, with a negative lab test allowing return sooner. Fully vaccinated staff and students can return to school immediately as long as no symptoms are present in the case of a close contact. Fully vaccinated means two weeks after receiving the last required dose of vaccination.

Close contact situations increased for our school community last week, and will likely continue based on high case counts in our area. While we will not be contacting families when a child in the class is a close contact to someone outside of the school, we will continue to contact classroom families in case of a positive case in their child's classroom.

We have created a school-wide dashboard for families to track the number of Covid-19 cases for our school. You can see any activity for the previous week, as well as cumulative information for the year. We are very fortunate for the low numbers proportionally compared to many other schools and workplaces. That low number is a result of how thoughtful our school community has been in protective measures outside of school, and how our mitigation strategies in school have been working to avoid any spread on our campus.

Any questions about the Gardner School's response to Covid-19? Email Assistant Head of School, Courtney Tomlinson at ctomlinson@gardnerschool.org.

Learning in Action

Getting kids outside!
We love those special days this time of year where our students can get outside for extra outdoor time. Classes have been able to take place outside at times, and extra outdoor playtime has been a big hit, too!
