The climate crisis has flattened forests, decimated factories, and increasingly shaken up investment portfolios for the world’s biggest firms. No exception is General Atlantic, the massive New York private equity firm that has been writing checks for companies seeking to reduce and reverse the impacts of climate change, all while returning investment dollars at scale.
This past summer, the firm started the BeyondNetZero fund to make focused investments in four main areas: decarbonization, energy efficiency, resource conservation, and emissions management. RoadRunner, a data-driven waste management platform, has raised a $70MM Round D. The start-up partners with businesses to divert trash from landfills and efficiently process and recycle materials.
BnZ has also invested in 80 Acres, a vertical farming company utilizing growing technologies and data analytics to increase revenue by 450% in the first half of 2021. BeyondNetZero chipped into the start-up's $160MM Round B in August.
