ACTION  ALERT

JANUARY 10, 2022
Dear NCJW Members,
We hope you are staying healthy and safe. We are sharing a few of many ways to use your voice and get involved.  As many of you know this is a red alert moment for our democracy, our rights, public education and so many more institutions we care about. Please let us know how we can support your civic engagement.  And please email our Advocacy Chair, Sue Corth scorth@gmail.com  or me with questions or concerns.  Thank you for all that you do to strengthen our community.
Your voices are needed!

Utah Legislative session
The Utah Legislative session runs between January 18th to March 4, 2022. There are lots of organizations that have bill trackers so you can follow where and when to show up, or contact your representative on the issues that matter to you.
Here are a few that have that information on their websites:

The Utah Investigative Journalism Project will be hosting a virtual course on the 2022 Legislative session.  This will cover how to use the Legislative website to track bills, and listen to or watch hearings and floor debates.  They will also discuss what issues to watch for.

Did you know . . .
Utah citizens worked hard to get fair redistricting and formed the Utah Independent Redistricting Committee. But the Utah Legislature approved their own maps disregarding all input from the Independent group. What does this mean for the future of Utah voters? Better Boundaries is working hard on this issue.

The League of Women Voters of Utah will be holding a webinar to help answer that question.

Wednesday January 12, 2022
7 pm - 8:30 pm

Leah A Murray, Ph.D, Academic Director of Walker Institute of Politics and Public Service, will be presenting on this issue.
Do you support this? Let them know.
If you live in Salt Lake County and you support the County Council's decision to impose a one month mask mandate, please let them know.  You can call your own member and it's worth emailing each of the members.

The Coalition of Religious Communities is having a virtual rally in support of Rep. Rosemary Lesser's bill to ban the sales tax on food.  Say no to the tax on food.  NCJW Utah is a member of the Coalition of Religious Communities and we participate in Jewish Lobby Day at the Capitol each year with this group. Here is more information on their upcoming virtual event on January 20th.
