BISMARCK, N.D. – “Champion Trees of Bismarck—Their History and Stories,” a presentation and conversation with Susan Wefald and Nancy Willis, will be presented at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan.16, at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck. The event is free and open to the public.
In January 2021, Bismarck Forestry Department volunteers Wefald and Willis started identifying champion trees, the largest of each species. This effort revealed that Bismarck has a magnificent urban forest. Learn about the first shade trees planted in Bismarck, roving cattle attacking trees in the city’s early days, and where to find the champion trees in the community.
This program is part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota's Sensational Sundays series. Sensational Sundays are free cultural programs that include a variety of lectures, concerts, movies, and tours.
