the word:  Thrive
by Kerlin

Once upon a time there was a little church on Harrison that went through many hard years and was kept alive by the love and hard work of a small handful of faithful people. Two of them were Ray and Jennie Brown. Over time, Saint David's went through a revival and began to flourish again. Years passed and Ray became ill and Jennie stayed home to care for him. After his passing, I asked her how we could support and love her in this next season of her life, and after thinking for a moment she answered me, "Just Thrive". She died a few weeks later.

And so every year at our annual meeting we give the "Just Thrive" award to people in the congregation you may have seen, but I am guessing have no idea how much they contribute and give to help our sweet church thrive. There are people like me who are up front and center most weeks, whose voices you hear and words you read and it's easy to think that because we are the most visible, we are the most important.

The Just Thrive award is our chance to honor the people who may never be front and center, but without whom our church wouldn't thrive or flourish. A church might be able to survive with a competent pastor and folks in the pews, but in order to thrive, we need faithful people like Ray and Jennie Brown, and all those whose ministry and gifts happen off center stage, people who show up and offer more encouragement and less criticism.

A tricky part of course is that we pick just a few people every year to honor, and there are so many of you whose love and faithfulness make Saint David's such an amazing community of grace and welcome.
And so, to each and every one of you who has pitched in and shown up and helped out over this past endless year, let me say - thank you - because of you all we thrive..

Speaking to Sunday Safety
We continuing to move forward with what we think are our best solutions keeping us all as safe and healthy as possible as we continue through this pandemic. Our Sunday hybrid church is allowing all of us to make decisions about our own wellness and comfort levels.
For those joining us in-person, we have two air purifiers for large rooms in the Sanctuary, and will continue to wear masks and be as distanced as the space and our comfort allows.
For those joining us from home, we have dedicated staff hours to the Zoom stream, and we love seeing your faces.
Please continue to think of your own comfort and your feelings of safety in making your Sunday church decisions. In whatever ways you choose to participate, we love you, we see you, and we are so glad you are with us.

Kerlin will be taking her very delayed sabbatical from March 1-June 1 2022.
