TODAY is Thursday 30 December 2021! Here's your dose of #genealogy love for the day including FREE WEBINARS and more!
“LET’S MAKE A DEAL” TV PREMIERE: ANNIVERSARY. Dec 30, 1963. Monty Hall hosted this outrageous and no-skill-required game show. Audience members, many of whom wore costumes, were selected to sit in the trading area, and some were picked to “make a deal” with Hall by trading something of their own for something they were offered. Sometimes prizes were worthless (“zonks”). At the end of the show, the two people who had won the most were given the option to trade their winnings for a chance at the “Big Deal,” hidden behind one of three doors #ad #gameshows #letsmakeadeal

I loved watching game shows on television during the 1960s and 1970s and Let's Make a Deal was my favorite ... Monty Hall the host, the crazy costumes, Jay and Carol ... all lots of fun.

For me the best part was the closing where Monty would ask contestants if they had a certain item in their pocket or purse ... a hard boiled egg, a can opener, etc.  You never knew what Monty would ask and you never know what people would bring!

Genealogy is a lot like that ... full of surprises and just plain weird stuff. The most bizarre thing for me and my family history happened recently while I was researching the death of Anna McPhillips, my 2nd great aunt.

I knew she died in a car accident in 1925 where a runaway car hit her in the Bronx, New York. I located the death date in an index with no cause of death. So I took to the newspapers looking for articles about the accident which occurred on May 8th, 1925.

What are the chances that there would be TWO runaway car accidents in the Bronx on that very day? The first article in the New York Times does not mention my aunt, but I thought it might be the accident.

And then I find this in the New York Evening Post
