What is a Pre-Primary Convention?
In New Mexico, state law provides each major political party the opportunity to nominate candidates to appear on the 2022 primary ballot.
Each county is allocated a certain number of delegates. All of San Juan's State Central Committee members (we have 15) are automatic delegates. We'll likely have another ~15 slots for Pre-Primary Delegates, for a total of ~30. San Juan County will elect its delegates on February 5 at our County Convention (which will be held in-person, but will likely allow for virtual participation as well).
THEN
Our State Central Committee members and additional Pre-Primary Delegates will attend the State Pre-Primary Contention on March 5. At this convention, our delagates, along with delegates from around the state, will vote to nominate candidates to appear on the June primary ballot for the offices of Governor, Lt. Gov, Sec of State, Congress, Attorney General, etc. Any candidate that receives 20% or more of the State Pre-Primary vote will appear on the primary ballot in June. The State Pre-Primary Convention will be held in in-person Roswell but will also have a virtual participation option.

SHIPROCK FLEA MARKET
During the final weeks of 2021, San Juan Dems collaborated with Apache County Democrats (AZ) to table at the Saturday Flea Market in Shiprock for voter registration, visibility, and gathering petition signatures.
We hope to make this a regular occurrence in 2022- we must organize and engage with the community now- we can't wait until two weeks before the election.
If you want to be a part of this effort, let us know!

Petition Signatures
Many statewide candidates are requesting help collecting petition signatures. These petition signatures earn them the right to appear on the primary ballot for races including Governor, Attorney General, State Auditor, and Secretary of State.
Some candidates, including Raúl Torres (Attorney General, $20/hr) and Zack Quintero (State Auditor) are hiring organizers to help gather signatures. If you or anyone you know is interested, let us know and we will connect you to the campaigns.
