New Years Day 2022
As today is the first day of the month named for Janus, the ancient Roman god of time, passages, and ending, we have been closing that door to the past year and contemplating 2022 beginnings. We enter this new year with traffic gardens going strong and we have only grown more in our belief that they are a great tool for getting kids outside and learning key life-time skills.

Highlights of 2021 have included working on temporary and permanent traffic garden projects plus writing traffic garden guidance documents as well as developing kits, play materials and STEM activities. Just because we're working close to home hasn't meant we didn't travel virtually: we were excited about our first Global Traffic Garden story featuring Tirana, Albania.

One of the pleasures of our work is that it connects us to people who are passionate about kids learning and safety as well as those who figure out how to get new things done in the community. They are the best and here's to lots of progress in 2022.

Some Traffic Garden Resolutions for 2022
Repurpose underutilized asphalt with paints, imagination and great local teams
Lots more pop-up traffic gardens that motivate permanent projects
Deploy playful activities to introduce kids to design and safety concepts
Create DIY guides to facilitate community projects getting off the ground
Support work of Early Childhood Mobility Coalition for kids 0-8
Share stories from new and existing traffic garden work in the U.S. and beyond
Facilitate the development of research projects and encourage funding support
Institutionalize traffic gardens into school and playground rehabilitation projects
Create more standardized guidance to inform technical aspects
Encourage keener national focus on the safety and learning needs of children
Invite Secretary Pete to come visit our wonderful local traffic gardens
Make 2022 the best year yet for traffic gardens!

At the end of the year, we reflect on all the support, advice and assistance that we generously received from pals and colleagues including Andrea, Beatriz, Charlie, Dick, Ellen, Emily, Emma, Gillian, Graham, Henry, Lauren, Mark, Maria, Mary-Jo, Melissa, Penny, Rick, Sam 1, Sam 2, Sharon, and Skip. Our work this year found us new pals too: Brian, Dylan, Laura, Matt, Maya, Maylyn and many others. Thank you also to everyone who came out to volunteer at one of our installations or events!
