Give Local York Resources on Equity

This year, in addition to providing participating nonprofits with training and support on storytelling, marketing, donor engagement and stewardship we will also be offering resources and trainings on programmatically and operationally moving toward equity in our organizations and our community.

The first of these offerings is being held:
January 5, 2022
1:00 pm ET

Understanding Institutional Bias in the Nonprofit
Everyone has biases. Those we know are called explicit bias; those that are subconscious as implicit or unconscious bias. The unconscious/implicit biases drive the majority of our decisions, in life and business. Whether intentional or not, implicit biases influence decisions, operations, and the culture in the workplace. Biases can be positive or negative, and having a bias does not make someone a bad person. It is not recognizing and shifting negative institutional biases that leads to bad issues in the nonprofit workplace.
Offered by: Nonprofit Learning Lab
Presented by: Consuelo Meux | CM Consulting

Project Implicit

Understanding your own and your team’s implicit/unconscious biases is key to opening doors to equity. Project Implicit offers a tool to test your implicit associations about race, gender, sexual orientation, and other identities.

5 Years of GLY
5 Years of Community

Give Local York turns five this year! Give Local York is hosted by the White Rose Leadership Institute, an organization with a mission of strengthening the York County nonprofit sector with empowered and exceptional leaders prepared to transform our community. It is our vision that through the work of The White Rose Leadership Institute, York County will be a model for exceptional nonprofit leadership that drives systemic social innovation and change.

The Core Values of the White Rose Leadership Institute

  • ADVOCACY

We work together with a shared voice to champion innovative and effective solutions to York County’s most pressing social problems and the important role the nonprofit sector plays in those solutions.

  • BEING A CATALYST

We believe in forecasting and responding to demographic, political and social shifts by acting in creative ways that generate new solutions.

  • COLLABORATION

We believe in the strength of the collective and empower each other to spark ideas, align strategies, and shape initiatives that unlock the potential of social innovation.

  • FELLOWSHIP

We convene and engage a diverse community of innovative leaders from across sectors to forge connections for mutual support on our shared journey, side by side.

  • INCLUSION

We believe leadership is exceptional when it reflects our diverse communities. We listen, learn and work across differences to build the common good.

  • INTEGRITY

We take our roles as community stewards and trusted advisers seriously.

Be sure to bookmark the GLY Nonprofit Toolkit for access to all the amazing resources provided by GiveGab. Don't forget to sign up for our various training webinars and check out the new video resources on our Webinars & Trainings Page.
Don't forget: we are requiring all nonprofits who participate in Give Local York to have a Non-Discrimination Policy and Statement in place. If your organization does not currently have a policy in place, we are happy to provide resources as a starting point. Click here to see a sample Non-Discrimination Policy. Your policy must be uploaded to your GiveGab account before Give Day in order to be "donatable" on May 6.

After Americans for the Arts created its new Statement on Cultural Equity in 2016, the organization shared its process so that others could learn from its example:  10 Steps We Took to Create The Americans for the Arts Statement on Cultural Equity.
