Merry Christmas!

Yes! It is still the Christmas season. Although the world is taking down their Christmas trees and and packing up their Santa decor, the Catholic Church is still celebrating Christ’s birth for one more week.

Yesterday at mass we celebrated the Epiphany. The feast day of the Epiphany is January 6th, and it is the end of the 12 days of Christmas. On the Epiphany we celebrate the wise men finding Jesus and giving him the gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Read more about the Epiphany here.

Tomorrow, January 4th, is the feast day of St Elizabeth Ann Seton. Elizabeth lived during the time when our nation was just forming. She is actually the first American-born canonized saint. She was a wife, mother to five, and Catholic convert. She is pictured in one of the stained glass windows inside St Isidore Church, and she is my personal favorite saint. If you want to read more about her check out this resource.

We will return to our Wednesday night classes this Wednesday, January 5th at 6:30pm in the Assisi Room. This week we will have an Open Discussion Question & Answer session. So come with your questions and topics that you would like to discuss and it will surely be a great time of fellowship.

We meet for Breaking Open the Word every Sunday at 10am Mass. After the priest’s homily, he will call forward all who are participating in RCIA. He says a blessing over you then dismisses you with one of our team members to meet together and discuss the bible readings that were just read at mass.

It is very helpful if you arrive to mass early so you can sit close to the front. It helps us know who is present and it’s a shorter walk for you when the priest calls you forward.

The Catholic Company offers daily emails with short reflections on the Catholic Faith. A few of you have be receiving the emails and commented how much you are enjoying them. Here is the link if you would like to sign up to receive the emails.
