NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS ON INCREMENTAL COST INCREASES FOR NORTH LAKE SPECIAL ASSESSMENT DISTRICT NO. 2 AND NORTH LAKE AQUATIC PLANT CONTROL PROJECT SPECIAL ASSESSMENT DISTRICT NO. 19-1

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to Act 188 of 1954, the Township Board of Columbia Township, Van Buren County, Michigan, desires to consider approving incremental cost increases for certain public improvements funded by (1) the North Lake Special Assessment District No. 2., for which a special assessment roll was confirmed on July 29, 2016, and for which assessments are levied annually on summer tax bills; and (2) the North Lake Aquatic Plant Control Project Special Assessment District No. 19-1, for which a special assessment roll was confirmed on May 4, 2019, and for which assessments are levied annually on winter tax bills.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the proposed amount of the increase is 20% for each special assessment district, such that the assessment amount on each tax bill will increase from $350 per parcel to $420 per parcel on each tax bill (for a total annual assessment of $840 per parcel).

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that public hearings on each proposed incremental cost increases will be held on January 18, 2022, at 6:00 P.M. at the Township Hall, 53053 CR 388, Grand Junction, MI 49056. At the public hearings, the Township Board will hear and consider any objections to the proposed incremental cost increases and may confirm amended special assessment rolls reflecting the incremental cost increases.

NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that an owner or party in interest in a lot or parcel of land subject to North Lake Special Assessment District No. 2 or North Lake Aquatic Plant Control Project Special Assessment District No. 19-1 may file a written appeal with the Michigan Tax Tribunal within thirty (30) days after the date of confirmation of the amended special assessment roll, but only if the owner or party in interest appears and protests at this public hearing. An appearance may be made by an owner or party in interest or his or her agent in person, or an appearance or protest can be filed with the Township by letter prior to the hearing, in which case a personal appearance at the hearing is not required.
