Today - January 4th - is National Trivia Day! I remember when the game Trivial Pursuit came out in 1981. I will still in my freshman year at The George Washington University. Setting up a game in the student lounge was often the start of a fun evening getting away from our studies.
For many "trivia" is just useless information that serves no real purpose except, possibly, to win trivia night at the local pub. I've always been fascinated by facts and information ... and I think most genealogists are as well. Admit it, how many of you would read an atlas to look at the maps, read the Information Please almanac each year when it came out, or remember The Book of Lists?
I bet there are many facts in your genealogy research that others might consider "trivial," but you and I both know how important that information can be!
For me, there's a family story of how the famous puppeteer Bil Baird live across the alley from my great-grandparents in New York City. Occasionally he would put on puppet shows in the window for neighborhood children. In fact, here's a sketch of my great uncle Gregory Austin (1927-2013) done by Baird.
