Common Sayings NOT Found in the Bible:
“Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin”

Star Word Sunday

We are in the season of Epiphany. Some refer to January 6 as Three Kings Day,
the day when the Magi came to bring Jesus gifts. Folks didn't use maps back then;
rather stars were their guide. The three Magi who noticed a new star had a deep sense
that this star would direct them to something or someone divine. So off they went
following a star in the East and came to the place where Jesus and his parents resided.

On this Epiphany Sunday there will be star words available for you to take with you into your year. My prayer is that this word will be like a map for you - a way for you to see God at work
in your life. In past years I have kept my star word on my desk so I can readily see it.
In some ways my star word over the years has been a faith handle for me.
A way to bring me back to God to be assured that God is with me desiring that I am living life, loving my neighbor as I love myself.

If you wish, I would love to hear your experiences with your starword in the months ahead.

Because of Jesus,
Pastor Mary

This Week's Scripture Verse

Matthew 7:1-5

Don’t judge, so that you won’t be judged. You’ll receive the same judgment you give.
Whatever you deal out will be dealt out to you. Why do you see the splinter
that’s in your brother’s or sister’s eye, but don’t notice the log in your own eye?
How can you say to your brother or sister, ‘Let me take the splinter out of your eye,’
when there’s a log in your eye? You deceive yourself! First take the log out of your eye,
and then you’ll see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s or sister’s eye.

New Adult Sunday School Class

Following our fantastic Advent study we are moving into the new year by studying one of the greatest gifts we have: Grace. On January 9th during the Education Hour we will begin a study of "What's So Amazing About Grace" by Philip Yancey. Grace is the one thing the world cannot duplicate, and the one thing it craves above all else--for only grace can bring hope and transformation to a jaded world. In What's So Amazing About Grace? award-winning author Philip Yancey explores grace at street level. If grace is God's love for the undeserving, he asks, then what does it look like in action? And if Christians are its sole dispensers, then how are we doing at lavishing grace on a world that knows far more of cruelty and unforgiveness than it does of mercy? In his most personal and provocative book ever, Yancey offers compelling, true portraits of grace's life-changing power. He searches for its presence in his own life and in the church. He asks, How can Christians contend graciously with moral issues that threaten all they hold dear? And he challenges us to become living answers to a world that desperately wants to know, What's So Amazing About Grace? Books will be available in class at the first session or can be purchased in advance through Amazon.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to experience the true meaning
of God's grace in our lives.
