Help shape the future, Sun City West Master Plan survey now live!
Does Sun City West need a bar? A new restaurant? Covered pickleball courts? Who would pay for these? Do we need more activities for your age group? Are you satisfied with the clubs and amenities we have? Share your thoughts with us about the community and what you would like to see in the future. The Sun City West Master Plan survey is now available online for residents to fill out.
The online survey closes at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19.

Alternative ways to complete Master Plan survey
Residents who do not have computers may stop by the Data Resource Center at the Library to use a computer to complete the survey online (be sure to bring your rec card to use a computer). Hard copies of the survey are also available at the library or the reception desk at R.H. Johnson Administration Offices. Hard copies must be returned to either location no later than 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14.

Along with the Master Plan survey, a series of community roundtables will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at locations throughout SCW.

MLK Day holiday closures

2022 Music on the Green kicks off tonight at Great Lawn
Kick off 2022 with Music on the Green's first show, Torres & Hendrix, on
Wednesday, Jan. 5. The free concert will take place on the R.H. Johnson Great Lawn as part of the outdoor concert series. Bring your lawn chair and beverages.
The duo Torres & Hendrix have performed in the Phoenix area for years bringing the guitar and rhythms of Torres with the voice of Hendrix.
Torres’ latest efforts have resulted in a tribute to one of his guitar heroes – the legendary Santana. Mike’s new show, “Evil Waze,” captures Santana’s magic with such classics as “Black Magic Woman,” “Oye Como Va,” “Europa” and more.

Happy New Year!
Sun City West residents and friends welcomed in 2022 at the New Year’s Eve dance held at Palm Ridge. Confetti rained onto the dance floor as the Hi Fi Allstar band sang into the new year.
 
2022 Top Hat and Cabaret individual ticket update
Individual show tickets for the Top Hat Series are on sale at the RHJ Box Office. Select seats are still available for the 3 p.m. show of Piano Men Generations on Thursday, Jan. 13. The Oh, Canada show has seats for the 3 p.m. show and limited seats for the 7 p.m. show. The Johnny Rodgers-Buddy & Beyond has seats for the 3 p.m. show on Feb. 17. Walkin’ the Line-A Johnny Cash Tribute has seats available for the March 3 show at 3 p.m.
The 2022 Cabaret Series has individual tickets available for Danika & The Jeb at 3 p.m. on February 11.

Upcoming ticket sales
Tickets for The Duttons show, set for Feb. 8 at Palm Ridge, are on sale now. Tickets sales started Tuesday, Jan. 4 at the R.H. Johnson Box Office and online at suncitywest.com. Tickets are $25.
Tickets for Elvis & the Cadillac Kings go on sale Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 8 a.m. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased at the R.H. Johnson Box Office or online at suncitywest.com.
On Tuesday, Jan. 18, tickets go on sale for the February Dance featuring Rhythm Edition to be held Friday, Feb. 18. Dance tickets will only be sold to Sun City West residents at the Box Office. Plan to be at the box office as dances sell out fast!
Also on Jan. 18, tickets for Spring Fest go on sale both at the box office and online. A subscription gets you all three shows for $45/person, or $18 for individual concerts.

Library quilt display for January
The R.H. Johnson Library has a new quilt on display from the Palo Verde Patchers. Titled "Bouquets for a new day," members can stop by the library this month and check it out in person.

New lecture series provided by the Friends of the R.H. Johnson Library starting Wednesday, Jan. 26.
Join the Friends of the Library as they provide a new lecture series for the Sun City West community. Nationally recognized Abraham Lincoln presenter and historian John Voehl will be presenting the first lecture, "Gettysburg Address and the Rest of the Story," on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m. in the Stardust Theater. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. No tickets are required.
How to coupon for beginners
Learn tips from an instructor on how to save money at local stores using newspaper coupons and other techniques for finding, organizing and matching coupons to sales. This free class takes place from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, at the R.H. Johnson Library.

This week's Stardust movie is "50 First Dates" the 2004 film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

The Friends of the Library show movies at Stardust Theatre, located at the Kuentz rec center, every Thursday at 7 p.m. or when all seats are filled. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Entry is free but a $2 donation at the door is greatly appreciated as it helps support purchasing new material for the R.H. Johnson Library.

Learn how to download eBooks, digital audiobooks
and digital magazines
As people increasingly read and listen to books on their smartphone or tablet, they’re discovering one of the best resources is their local library. Sun City West residents can access a wide selection of popular eBooks and audiobooks free from the R.H. Johnson Library. With their rec card, members of the community can borrow from the digital collection by downloading Libby, the award-winning reading app from Overdrive.
In addition, the library will be hosting live demonstrations of how to get started with borrowing eBooks and audiobooks through the Libby app. The next free event takes place on Friday, Jan. 21, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Get more information and register by calling

This session will get you up to speed on everything you need to know to get started with Libby, including:
  • Finding your library and signing in
  • Navigating the app
  • Browsing and searching for titles
  • Borrowing titles and placing holds

This service is compatible with all major computers and devices, iPhone®, iPad®, Android™ phones and tablets and Chromebook™. Through Libby, readers can also “send to Kindle®” [U.S. only]. All titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period and there are no late fees. Readers can also download titles onto Libby for offline use.
Lizard Acres Pub Entertainment
Mark your calendars this January for some new entertainment coming to the Lizard Acres Pub.
  • Live music on Wednesday, Jan. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Karaoke night on Saturday, Jan. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Trivia night on Wednesday, Jan. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m.

New Lizard Acres weekend hours
Beginning Jan. 1, the weekend hours for Lizard Acres Pub will be changing. On Saturdays, the operating hours will be 3 to 10 p.m. On Sundays, it will be 3 to 9 p.m.
During the week, operating hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Locker rentals are past due
Locker rentals fees for 2022 are now past due. A late fee of $5 will be applied to your locker fees. Please stop at the monitor's desk to make your payment.
Leagues began this past Monday, Jan. 3
For winter visitors who arrived too late for the start of Fall Leagues, there will be an opportunity to join leagues beginning Jan. 3. Signup books are located on the desk behind lanes 19-22.
  • Monday Part Timers started this past Monday, Jan. 3, at 8 p.m.
There is also a couple openings for the Tuesday Night No-Tap League (6 p.m.). Contact the league secretary, Matti Barone at 602-228-6163 to get signed up.
Flag disposal
If you are putting out a fresh, new U.S. flag during the holidays and aren't sure what to do with your old one, bring it in to the Sports Pavilion. VFW Post #10695 has offered to dispose of those flags for us. Look for the flag disposal container in the Sports Pavilion.

Double check lottery request
Whenever a lottery request is submitted on the web portal, regardless of whether a lottery request confirmation email is received or not, the booking member should check their “My Itinerary” file to ensure the request was completed. If the request doesn’t appear in the “My Itinerary” list, the lottery request should be resubmitted, more than likely due to not completing the original lottery request.
