What to Know About...

Medina - May 11-13, 2022

Hello <<First Name>>!

2022 is starting off fabulous for SNHU, and we are honored you have chosen Santa Nana's Holiday University as your partner in your Claus portrayals. We hope you are as excited as we are to come together in May, in an environment where we learn, share, encourage, and connect with each other. While we continue to add details to the schedule, this is the first in a series of messages and reminders so you're ready for a jam-packed, fun-filled, fabulous weekend. Read on to catch up with the plans.

Castle Noel's Santa Day
Castle Noel is America's largest indoor, year-round, Christmas attraction, and each year they celebrate Santa Day. This year, Santa Day is May 14, right after SNHU. If you want to learn more about Santa Day's activities, join the Facebook group here, or visit their website here. You can also follow along the Santa Nana Facebook page for updates about this fun event. To register for Santa Day, follow this link. It's separate from SNHU, but we'll try to answer your questions or direct you to where you can find the answer.

Class Location and Hotel
Our class will take place at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites, where we also have a block of rooms reserved. Visit the Medina page on the SantaNana.com website for the address, rate and group code. Be sure to reserve your room by April 11 to guarantee the group rate. If you are interested in room-sharing, post that on the new Medina Messenger group.

Please Take a Quick Survey
Follow this link to answer a few questions about your expectations and some of your thoughts as a performer. We'll share the feedback at the workshop. If the link doesn't open for you, copy and paste this into your browser:  https://santanana.com/pre-session-survey-medina/

Community Service Project
At each SNHU session, we support a local charitable organization important to the community. We have chosen to partner with Castle Noel to support the "Socks for Soldiers" drive. If you would like to participate, bring socks that will be distributed to our deployed service members. To learn more about this cause, you can visit the Socks for Soldiers website. We'll have a representative from Castle Noel come tell us more about the drive and how it benefits our service members.

The Schedule
We will publish a more detailed schedule on the website, but here's what you can look forward to, to plan your travel.
  • Wednesday evening - a casual welcome reception as you arrive and get to know each other and start the Swap or Sell.
  • Thursday - class will start at 8:30 and end around 5:00. We will have a group dinner that night, followed by some fun activity and more of the Swap or Sell.
  • Friday - class will start at 8:30 and end by 5:00. We will have graduation and a casual celebration.
  • Saturday - Santa Day, and we'll arrange to have a group photo taken at Castle Noel.
Read on for other important updates about what to send ahead of time and what to bring with you.

What to Send Ahead

If you have any of the following, please send them by email so we can include examples in our discussions. One of our goals with SNHU is to share and get feedback on what we are currently doing or planning to do, sharing best practices, and learning from each other. We realize each of us is at a different stage of professional development, so please don't worry if you haven't yet created them.
  • Photo(s) of you in character—it can be a head shot, full shot, in casual wear, business wear, formal wear, etc. We want to build in a showcase of your different looks for different venues. You can also send some photos you are not that happy with and are willing to share as an example of a lesson learned, like the shiny face, the bad angle, the awkward pose, etc.
  • Business Card—scan or take a picture of your current business card for a show and tell about how you advertise and market yourself.
  • Facebook and/or Website—if you have a Facebook page or website dedicated to your Claus character, please send us the links. We'll share best practices and ideas for those considering creating these important marketing materials.
Send what you have to SNHU@SantaNana.com

What to Bring with You

  • Socks for Soldiers—If you choose to contribute to the community service project mentioned above. We're getting more details about the types of socks or any socks to help out both men and women serving.
  • Business Cards—Bring a few extra business cards to exchange with your classmates to build your networking directory.
  • Castle Noel AttireIf you're staying for Santa Day, check out the itinerary (there's a parade!) and their suggestions for what to wear. (links above)
  • Swap or Sell Clothing or Accessories—for our first SNHU Swap or Sell, you're welcome to bring Claus-related clothing or accessories you'd like to either swap or sell. We'll share more about that on the Facebook group page.

Dress Code and Weather

  • Casual and comfortable for class time. Medina in May (at least last year) should be in the 60s or low 70s during the day, and possibly high 30s at night. We'll keep an eye on that.
  • Graduation—we would love to see everyone wear a red top and black pants/skirt for our class graduation photo, which we will take Friday afternoon. We like the idea of carrying on the theme that Santa Nana started with her first class in 2016, and we've kept with each session since. We all look fabulous, don't we?!

Bringing a Guest?

If your spouse or partner plans to come to Medina but doesn’t plan to attend class, let us know if you want to include him/her with meals. We can send a separate invoice to cover the cost of catering for any or all of the welcome reception, lunch, and graduation. Guests are also more than welcome to join us at the group dinner Thursday night at a location we're working on (separate checks). Write to us at SNHU@SantaNana.com.

Thank you, and we'll send more updates as we get closer to Medina time!
