Both personally and professionally, the NC3 team is grateful for the sense of renewal that comes with the new year. We know 2021 was often harder than expected, and we’re holding close the things that got us through–downtime with loved ones, moments of laughter and levity, and a sense of community with other changemakers who are optimistic that we can build a better future. Thank you for continuing to be part of that community!

Annual Report

NC3 has just released our first Annual Report to share our successes and learnings from 2021. We invite you to read this report, and as always feel free to reach out if you have any questions or comments. Finally, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our members, without whom we would not be able to continue this work.

Member News: The New Community Project Roadmap

NC3 member Kathleen Minogue in collaboration with the Harbinger Consultancy is offering a new course, The New Community Project Roadmap: Lessons from Crowdfunding for Repeatable Success in Building and Sustaining Community Initiatives.

Are you in the midst of a community project that seems stuck? An initiative that you just can’t get off the ground? This new course will use proven approaches from the world of crowdfunding to help you lay the groundwork for a successful community crowdfunding campaign—and for a repeatable process that you can use to create, start, finish and sustain community projects again and again, even if you decide not to crowdfund. Learn more about the course here

The team is also offering NC3 readers a 15% discount on registration fees with the code NC3. The discount code is valid until the course begins on March 2, but you can also apply it to early bird registration through January 31. Just enter NC3 in the Coupon Code field during checkout.

Welcoming New Board Members

NC3 is delighted to welcome two new board members and one returning member,  Elizabeth L. Carter, Katharine Czarnecki Merritt, and Bill Huston. They all bring unique perspectives and experience to the team, along with a wealth of knowledge about community capital and development.

Elizabeth L. Carter (she/her)
Elizabeth is a crowdfunding securities attorney who assists investment funds, small businesses, cooperatives, and nonprofits with the legal strategy and compliance of raising capital from investors. Through Elizabeth L. Carter, Esq., LLC, she helps to democratize business capital and the securities legal space through the provision of accessible legal services to entities owned and controlled by Black and Afro- Latinx entrepreneurs.

Katharine Czarnecki Merritt (she/her)
Katharine is a community development professional, trained in urban planning and placemaking and is a certified economic development finance professional. Katharine spent over a decade at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Under Katharine’s leadership, the state’s economic development agency worked closely with community partners to create initiatives to improve main streets, renovate and preserve historical sites, prepare communities so they will be ready and attractive to developers, facilitate crowdfunding campaigns, and promote key development properties to developers outside of Michigan.

Bill Huston (he/him)
Bill is an Inc. Magazine top 19 global crowdfunding expert, national speaker on the topic of investment crowdfunding, returning NC3 Board Member, and the founder of Crowd-Max.com, an investment crowdfunding education and coaching agency focused on helping Black-owned businesses raise capital using investment crowdfunding and identifying and converting retail investors.

NC3 is building a network of community champions collaborating to democratize financial systems and create opportunities for empowered citizen investors to catalyze locally-rooted enterprises that drive both individual and community wealth and wellbeing.

Our members are a diverse group of community leaders, entrepreneurs, lawyers, financial advisors, investors, consultants, economic development professionals, philanthropists, concerned citizens, educators, and others collaborating to usher in an era of greater inclusivity and more widespread, shared prosperity.
