Welcome to the first Flute Examiner issue of 2022!

We have three articles for you this month, submitted by Kelly and me, along with Margarita Zelenaia’s “Solitude,” our monthly New York Women Composers feature. Kelly writes about learning to create a performance space in a time when that may be your living room rather than a concert hall. I share suggestions for seeing the bright side of a lost competition, and Kelly’s interview with Meerenai Shim reveals a strong, resilient and valuable member of our community. There’s a pattern this month—when things don’t go exactly the way we expect, when conditions aren’t perfect, how do we pivot? We’ll all face moments like these, and we hope you’ll be inspired by what you read here this month!
