CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY ALL YEAR LONG

I had the opportunity to share with my fellow MSC Officers to celebrate Black history all year, but to take February as a special time to enjoy programs on the university's very full 2022 BHM calendar.  There were a record number of events submitted this year - with 30 events.

Here is a list of the events that MSC WBAC will be hosting this month:

February 02 - Wellness Dinner & Discussion with Eryn DeLaney, at 6:30PM in MSC 2406

February 23 - West African Film Festival: Love Castle - A Nigerian Film at 5:00PM in Rudder Tower 601

February 27 - Soulful Sunday with Oni K. Blair at 4:00PM in MSC 2404

NEW LOCATION
GCM meetings for the spring are as listed below and they start next week.  It will be a nice mix of meetings and special events every other Wednesday.

INFORMATIONAL/SOCIAL

As a small committee, the best "bang for our buck" is to combine events and again we are doing that with our informational/social.  As you will recall, last semester we had a birthday party theme for our informational which was also our first social of the new academic year...celebrating our members!

Join the MSC Woodson Black Awareness Committee (MSC WBAC) as we celebrate Black History Month and support the 2022 national theme of Black Health and Wellness.  This multifaceted event will:

1. Introduce MSC WBAC and all of the opportunities available within our committee

2. Address diversity and multiculturalism as an integral part of the therapeutic process (Guest Speaker Eryn DeLaney, M.S, M.Ed.)

3. Provide social time with a soul food dinner provided free of charge (you must RSVP here)

DEEPER DIVE INTO RECRUITMENT7 Recruitment Best Practices for Hiring Top Talent | TechFunnel

One of the goals in our strategic plan is to increase membership by 50% over the previous year.  As the gatekeeper for our plan, I will schedule meetings with the recruitment officers of MSC SCONA, MSC A LOT, and MSC FISH.  We will meet with them in our executive leadership meetings over the next month to glean from their best practices.
DIRECTOR & SUBCO UPDATES
This sub-co serves to actualize the principles of collective work and responsibility by building and maintaining strong relationships with the campus community through viable co-programming.

SAVE THE DATE

In two days we officially begin planning the Black Aggie Family BBQ with the Black Student Alliance Council (BSAC).  I look forward to productive, bi-weekly meetings.

The pandemic has cancelled the past two BBQs and we look forward to provided this much loved and highly anticipated event this spring.
This sub-co facilitates the commemoration of the federal holiday for Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to honor Dr. King’s legacy while fostering a campus environment that fulfills Dr. King’s inclusive dream for America

WATCH THE MLK BREAKFAST NOW

If you missed our live broadcast of the MLK breakfast, you can watch it here once it is uploaded.  Enjoy!  While we await the results from our survey, please feel free to make suggestions for next year's special guest at wbac@msc.tamu.edu.  Check out media coverage.

This sub-co embodies the African proverb that it takes a village to raise a child, it is our intent to provide a wide array of speakers and topics that enhance student development.

INTRODUCTION - PART ONE

Our next Soulful Sunday speaker comes with many accolades and we will take the next few weeks to introduce her.  Oni K. Blair '02 is a public policy professional who has worked on international, national, and local issues. In June 2021, Ms. Blair became the executive director of ACLU of Texas, leading the organization forward through a particularly challenging environment with attacks on voting, reproductive rights, and LGBTQ rights, among other issues. Blair is the first Black woman to lead the ACLU of Texas in its 83-year history.

Educates on Black history and matters involving the vast cultures and people of the African Diaspora.
