Winter Lights Festival in Creston-Kenilworth!
EARTH Space PDX (located at the corner of Gladstone and 42nd Ave) will be a stop on the map for the Portland Winter Light Festival on February 4th, 5th, 11th and 12th from 6pm-10pm. Light displays will include: The Vortex (a sound-reactive display) by Chrisopher Condrat; glowing Mineral Lamps by Tami of Mineral Visions; The Beacon by Rachel Rusenko; and an illuminated gallery wall featuring the art of this month's featured artists. All four of these nights are free and open to the public.

Also at EARTH Space PDX this weekend: On Sunday, February 6th, from 6-8pm a guest speaker will be hosted at EARTH Space PDX: Slick (He/Him) will present his talk "What is Meaningful Art?". Slick is a BIPOC artist fueled by his goal to bring prosperity through art and purposeful design. Slick has spent many years networking in the underground creative world of the Pacific Northwest. His journey as an artist started at the age of 5 with salsa dance, and over the years he grew into more disciplines (poetry, design, directing). He has recently created Slick Education, a company meant to help society inwardly reflect through art. This event is open to the public by optional donation.
A little about EARTH Space PDX:
EARTH SPACE PDX is a multifaceted community center in Portland, Oregon with a purpose to uplift E.A.R.T.H.~ Education, Art, Resilience, Trade, and Healing. It serves as a community center, art studio, art gallery and community market.
The outdoor space is a dedicated permaculture sanctuary with a fire circle, garden beds, chicken coop, composting system, and an outdoor classroom.
The event room indoors can be rented to host events including: educational workshops, speeches, meetings, birthdays, performances, celebrations and more. It has most commonly been rented for: yoga classes, dance classes, feminine empowerment workshops, mycology and permaculture classes, educational guest speakers, birthdays and dance performances.
The event room also serves as an art gallery displaying monthly featured artists with an opening and closing reception most months, as well as a consignment shop featuring crafts and wellness products by local makers.

Portland City Charter Commission Update

Every 10 years, the City Council convenes a Charter Commission to review and recommend amendments to the City of Portland Charter (a.k.a. the City's Constitution). The Charter Commission is an independent body that sets its own scope of work. Commissioners are currently focusing on two issues: Form of Government and City Council Elections.
The Charter Commission hosted a series of Community Listening Session in November 2021 and January 2022. In both sets of sessions, community members had the opportunity to learn more about the charter review process and the issues currently being researched by the Charter Commission (form of government & city council elections). During the sessions, community members had the opportunity to hear an educational presentation and join virtual breakout rooms to have an in-depth discussion on the policies the Charter Commission is considering.
The Charter Commission has set the following desired outcomes for their work:
- Participatory and growing democracy with more voices being heard in elections
- Accessible and transparent government with Councilors who are easy to reach
- Reflective government with Councilors who look like the community they represent
- Responsive government with Councilors who understand community needs
- Accountable government with Councilors who answer to the people
- Trustworthy government with Councilors who safeguard democracy

Changes to Trimet Bus Lines 10 & 2
|
|
|
|
Trimet is proposing changes to Bus Lines 2 & 10 to accommodate the new TriMet FX™ high-capacity bus service coming to the Division Street corridor between Downtown Portland and the Cleveland Ave Park & Ride in Gresham in September 2022.
Line 2 will be replaced by the new and improved FX 2-Division and use Tilikum Crossing instead of Hawthorne Bridge.
Line 10 will move from SE Ladd Ave to SE 7th Ave, serving five stops previously served by Line 2. Trimet also plans to add Saturday and Sunday service, plus more weekday trips and later service on weeknights to Line 10 with the route change.
