January 26, 2022

On January 21-22, leaders from around the section gathered in Eugene for the annual Council of Chief meeting.

As the first COC meeting of the year, section and lodge leadership and conclave committees met to begin planning the 2022 Section G16 Conclave.

On Friday night, the voting members of the COC elected a new section chief to replace Dirk Smelser, who had to resign from the position after being elected to serve as the Gateway Region chief. Then section secretary Benjamin Flores of Wauna La-Mon'tay Lodge was elected as the chief. Dustin Graves of Tsisqan Lodge was elected to serve as section secretary.

Congratulations to the new officers!

Highlights from the COC:

  • The theme for the 2022 Section G16 Conclave was selected and will be announced on February 2nd at 6:00 PM on the section social media channels and website.
  • The annual section budget was approved in which the section allocated funding to the lodges for NLS scholarships.
  • The cost for conclave will remain the same as in 2021; $50 with new Arrowmen receiving a $10 discount.
  • This year's conclave will feature the use of a mobile app, as announced by the section comms team. The app concept, which was last used during the 2016 and 2017 conclaves, will be packed with a variety of features to bring all the elements of the conclave experience into one central location.

Brothers,

I hope everyone is doing well. Election season is currently in full swing. This means that we need you to assist in your lodge’s unit elections team. Unit elections helped me realize that it is an important step in the induction journey. Elections are a wonderful time to expose scouts unfamiliar to the Order of the Arrow and let them know of the amazing program that we offer.  Go and volunteer to conduct a few. We want to hit 90% of our units. This will ensure that the future of our Order will succeed.
