New campaign addresses stigma and raises awareness about the power of dance for people living with dementia
Too often, stereotypes and prejudices reduce the identities and experiences of people living with dementia to the diagnosis of dementia. Let’s challenge dementia-related stigma through dance.
Research on aging and brain health finds that dance offers a unique combination of physical, mental and social benefits for older adults. Dance may be socially and emotionally beneficial to older adults by reducing isolation and creating a sense of community and space for creativity and artistic expression.
Together, let's celebrate the creativity, joy, playfulness, community and connection of dancers living with dementia and their carers. Through a new Dancer Not Dementia campaign, we’ll be sharing information and experiences that highlight the power of dance for people living with dementia.

Join NBS' Adaptive Dance Program this Winter
Come dance with us this term in the Adaptive Dance Program, created by Canada’s National Ballet School, in consultation with Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. The program offers adapted creative movement classes for children ages 6-9 with diverse physical, cognitive and developmental needs. These 45-minute sensory-friendly dance classes provide opportunities for children to explore creativity and expression through the use of movement and music.
Limited spots remain available in Creative Movement 2, a moderate paced class for children with diverse physical and developmental needs who are both ready and working towards participating independently in programming.
Classes begin February 6. Learn more and register today.
