The Toolbox Training
Spring 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Toolbox options for Spring 2022

We are all encouraged in the Bible to grow in our faith. Becoming a Christian is the most amazing thing that can happen, but it is the start of the journey. When we commit our lives to God and become Christian, we are not the finished product, we continue to grow in our faith throughout our lives.

The reason we have called this ‘Toolbox’ is because we all need different things at different times depending on many factors, such as: what we know, what we are facing, how long we have been a Christian. The GBC Toolbox is an opportunity for us to learn, reflect and grow in areas which are most relevant to our faith journey. Each term we will have a number of different options for you to choose from. For some people being part of a weekly Care and Connect group is the way that they will continue to grow, and these Toolbox options are not in competition with that, they are offered as a helpful supplement to widen the choices people can make.

There are some new options this term including some Lent studies and devotions. There is also a link here to some Spiritual Wellness resources for those who might like to find new ways to refresh their personal devotional life.

All events can be booked by emailing office@godmanchesterbaptist.org or by phoning the office on 01480 458565 and leaving a message.

If you have any questions or suggestions for future Toolbox options, then please let me know.

God bless
Daniel
Prayer Meeting
1st Sunday of the month
8.00pm-9.00pm
Zoom

Our monthly prayer meeting will be a great opportunity to hear about some of the key things coming up in the next month across the GBC family and to pray for them and each other.  The next prayer meeting dates are: 6 February, 6 March, 3 April.
Bible Study
Monday 2.30pm-4.00pm
Small Hall, GBC
Led by Philip Thompson
An opportunity each week for further Bible study linked to the Sunday morning celebration preach.  When we hear someone preach, it can lead to further questions and reflections that can’t be addressed at the time. This Bible study will be a chance to explore the passage in more depth and consider how it affects our day to day lives.
Circle of Security Parenting Course
Tuesday 1.15pm-2.30pm
Starting 25 January 2022
Running for 8 weeks
Small Hall, GBC
Led by Anne Ambler & Jane Brooks
During the course we consider how our attachments to our children work and why they are so vital in this relationship as well as thinking about becoming reflective, rather than reactive, parents. It is a mixture of video material and discussion times. A folder, journal, handouts, and pens/pencils will be provided. There is also an opportunity to buy the book that runs alongside the course, Raising a Secure Child, for £10.00. There is no requirement to have the book, but it will be available should you wish to purchase it. Refreshments served at the start of the session.
Alpha
Tuesday 7.30-9.15pm
Starting 8 February 2022
Running for 12 weeks
Small Hall, GBC
Led by Carolyn Keats
Alpha is an opportunity to explore life and the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. Each session includes refreshments, a short video and a discussion where you can share your thoughts if you choose. There’s no pressure, no follow up and no charge. Why not come and join us? All are welcome.
‘Being Human’ Podcast
Thursday 8.00pm-9.00pm
Small Hall, GBC
Listen to the Podcast before we meet to discuss the issues raised
Hosted by Daniel Beckett
The Being Human podcast produced by Evangelical Alliance is part of their initiative to inspire and equip everyday Christians to understand, articulate and participate in the biblical vision of humanity.  What it is to be human is arguably the most profound, but also most contested question in our culture today.
“Amidst a global pandemic, black lives matter, contentious elections, and accelerating climate change, there is a constant cacophony of voices telling us who we are, what’s true, what’s real, what’s wrong, what will make you happy, and how to get it. Voices telling stories, both big and small, that shape how we live”.
This is an opportunity to grapple with large concepts that are very real in our world today. The group that met last term have enjoyed this so much, they are carrying on meeting this term. If you'd like to join in, please contact Daniel Beckett.
Lent Groups
During Lent we will be providing three opportunities for people to connect. These are:
  • A Bible Study
  • A Weekly Devotional
  • A Book Club
The Bible Study we are suggesting is A Passion for Christ by Michael Baughen. This is a description taken from the write up: Paul was passionate about Jesus, the Church and spreading the good news, even if it meant facing hardship and persecution. This was a man with the cross on his heart, who was able to see joy in suffering for his Lord. Over these six Bible study sessions, Michael Baughen encourages us to live with renewed passion, to share the gospel and to be prepared, if necessary, to suffer for Christ's sake and for His glory in the hope of the resurrection.
You may wish to use this material with a group you already attend/meet with, or maybe you would like to join a group during Lent to look at this material. If you are interested in joining a new group, please contact us and we will coordinate bringing groups of people together as best we can.
The devotional material that we are suggesting is Worship in the Wilderness, put together by Engage Worship. This is a description taken from their website:
For many people the past year has felt like a wilderness. Simplicity, sacrifice and sorrow may have become daily realities, yet the Bible is full of characters who have transformational encounters with God in the desert. Worship in the Wilderness is a life-giving Lent journey, exploring biblical, creative and deep themes.
If you choose to use this resource during Lent, why not let us know and we can put you in touch with others who are also using it.

The book that we will be using for our Book Club is He Chose the Nails by Max Lucado. This is a description taken from his website:
Max Lucado invites you to examine the cross, contemplate its purpose, and celebrate its significance in He Chose the Nails. Go ahead and linger on the hill of Calvary and see just how much God did to win your heart.
For those who are available, we will meet on a Friday at 11.00am at GBC to discuss the book each week during Lent. The dates will be: 4 March, 11 March, 18 March, 25 March, 1 April, 8 April.
