Farnham Vet John Hartley brushes aside a Harlequins Amateur Vets defender - as did the team on Saturday to record a resounding 24-7 win.

Meanwhile, on Pitch 1 the Warriors came a valiant second to Dorking Extra A - 19-24.

The Barbarians travelled to Eastleigh to secure a most satisfactory victory over their 3rd XV - 10-21.

There were no 1st or 2nd XV games scheduled on this league "rest" day.

This coming Saturday the 1st XV return to action after a prolonged COVID/Christmas break and travel to Rochester to play Medway RFC in London 1 South.

The Medway boys - a solid bunch of real rugby people - enjoyed their trip to Farnham and invited us to bring two teams over for the return fixture -  so the Vikings are making the trip too.

A coach has been hired for the teams and there will be space on board for travelling supporters at only £5.00 per head - first come first served.  Leaving at 10.30am,  it will be a long but cracking day out!

Your Saturday Monkton Lane rugby fix is provided by the Barbarians as they welcome Fareham while the Warriors travel to Old Ruts.

On Sunday, alongside masses of girls' and ladies rugby at Monkton Lane (see below), the Academy take on Gosport .  KO 2.00pm.

Congratulations to Will Trenholm - seen above learning his trade as a Farnham Mini - who has been selected to the England Seven's Squad for the opening round of the 2022 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series this weekend in Malaga.
On Sunday the Falcons II XV put a sterling effort in against Horsham Ladies II in their return league fixture.  While the game did not go the Falcons' way, once again the Monkton Lane turf welcomed people who have never played the game to the joys of a full-on competitive rugby match.
If ever you've questioned the quality of the facilities and kit at the Shed, doubt no more!  Last week the Army Women's XV forwards were down for a session there. They left well satisfied with their work - and all the kit remains in working order!
This determined clear-out from one of our U13 Girls well summarises the achievements of our burgeoning Junior Girls Section last Sunday.

The photo is from their defeat of Dorking by seven tries to one in the Waterfall Cup

At Farnham's first attacking opportunity they moved the ball through the hands and out of the tackle to create a mismatch which saw Hattie run direct, break the line and in for the first score.

The match continued with Farnham pressurising the Dorking attacks, tackle after tackle from the midfield and some dominant breakdown work prevented Dorking from getting any field position. In attack Farnham were relentless, running direct lines, committing defenders and offloading in tackles lead to tries from Zara, Ettie, Eva and Scarlett before a Dorking line break and with great support scored their first try of the day.

Further scores from Phoebe, Grace P, Grace C, Emma and Amelie saw Farnham run out winners in their first match of the year.  Dorking awarded Zara Harris POM and Coach Jo rewarded Emma P for her efforts.

"It was brilliant to have Magnus reffing, both Dorking and Farnham coaches and parents commented on how good he was. Thank you so much it really helps the girls improve when they get good consistent reffing," commented coach Tracy Parry.

In a season of firsts, the U15 girls travelled to Reigatians for their first ever U15 Girls Waterfall Cup game. Once the mist cleared, Reigatians were quickly into their stride, dominating first half possession and were 10-0 up at the break. As the bigger Reigatians pack tired, Farnham’s all-court game had the better of the second half scoring 2 tries from Mimi, both converted by Phoebe, but the hosts hung on for a narrow win 20-14 win.

The U18 Girls (above) also played their 1st Waterfall Cup match vs Cobham and Warlingham on Sunday. It was a very entertaining match to watch with some great tries being scored by both teams. Farnham pulled away at the end and won the match 41-25. It was a great team effort from all the players and the match was played in a very good spirit.

Next Sunday's schedule has 15-a-side games for the U15 and U18 Girls and the Falcons with all games kicking off at 2.00pm.  Whatever the outcome of those games, that is quite some result!

It's not all about the girls

But reading this newsletter, you could be led to thinking that it is.  The reason is simple - I compile this newsletter from material I am sent - so come one you boys coaches, admins and supporters, please send me pics and reports - as Ed regularly does for the U15s.

Farnham U15s rise high to secure the lineout at Winchester.
The U15s put on two real squad performances on Sunday. Over at Aldershot, the Bs hosted a Midhurst side containing a number of "Hagrid-sized" U16s (with consent from Sussex) and triumphed 40/29 with Archie Hawkyard bagging 4 tries with Daniel Wardrope and Johnny Gordon also getting on the scoresheet. Patrick Sykes had his kicking boots on and slotted several extras. It was a fabulous, attritional and dynamic game of rugby where I can honestly say the best side won!

The As travelled to Winchester for a very competitive game of rugby losing 12/10. Our tries came from a Fin Healey interception and Ben Evans in the corner after some great phase play. Unfortunately in the second half the lads fell on the wrong side of the decisions (baffingly at times) but critically that only galvanised them as a team rather than turning upon themselves (as had happened in recent weeks) - call it the "Scotty Mills' effect. From your correspondent's perspective, the most complete team performance (especially defensively) since Rosslyn Park before Christmas.
