Highlights from A Celebration of India - The Wisdom of Merton & Tagore

For those who attended this special day and wish to re-experience its beauty and wisdom, as well as those who were unable to join back in November, we have compiled footage of the entire day.

Blessings from the Speed, Lopa Mehrotra, and Gray Henry

This 40 minute highlights film of the Swagatam celebration at the Speed Art Museum gives a real sense of the day and its many offerings.

Renowned poet, Coleman Barks, accompanied by sitar, tabla and sarod, read from What Wants to Come Through Me Now, his interpretation of the Gitangali, a collection of poems by the Indian Mystic, Rabindranath Tagore.
Robert Thurman among other distinguished speakers provided insights into Merton & Hinduism: The Yoga of the Heart, the ninth and final volume of the acclaimed Fons Vitae Thomas Merton Series.
This is the first book to thoroughly and definitively trace the lasting influence of Yoga and the Hindu tradition on the life and writings of the renowned author of The Seven Storey Mountain, Thomas Merton, Catholic Priest, Trappist Monk, and pioneer of inter-religious dialogue.
Brother Paul Quenon, presenter and Merton & Hinduism contributor, and former novice under Thomas Merton, spoke as well.

Approximately half of the book includes Merton’s own writings on Gandhi and the Bhagavad Gita; many of these essays are published here for the first time.

Presented by Fons Vitae. CLICK HERE For more details on the program, presenters, film programs and titles.
