2022 DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP
Are you a current Ph.D./Th.D. student who is considering theological education as a vocation? The Louisville Institute would like to walk beside you in your discernment with the Doctoral Fellowship. This program awards two-year fellowships of $3,000 per year.
Louisville Institute scholars selected for the Doctoral Fellowship join in a peer learning cohort that meets six times during the two years. This holistic formation program allows fellows to explore the changing landscape and dimensions of a calling to theological education.
Applicants should describe their commitment to the Christian church and theological education, and suggest how their doctoral work is preparing them for a teaching career in theological education. Applicants may represent a variety of academic disciplines including but not limited to history, ethics, the social sciences, biblical studies, historical, systematic, and practical theology, as well as interdisciplinary studies.
The Doctoral Fellowship is part of the Louisville Institute Vocation of the Theological Educator initiative (VTE) created in 2013. The VTE initiative addresses the need to practice theological education in ways that holistically address the challenges and opportunities of the social, cultural, and religious landscape of the 21st century. As the role of churches and other faith-based ministries has evolved in dramatic ways, theological educators are called to help to prepare theological students for pastoral ministries, lay ministries, justice work, and other types of leadership in various contexts in order to respond to ministry needs and societal change, and to help remedy global injustices. VTE invites theological educators to consider how both academic expertise and understanding calls to ministry are important in responding to God’s unique call to theological education.
