News
- Reminder - Baby Shower for the De Wolf Family after 1/23 Service, This Sunday!
Please join us for a COVID-safe drive-by baby shower for the De Wolf family on Sunday, January 23rd. Meet up at the church around 12:15-12:30 and we will festoon our vehicles and loosely organize ourselves to do a little parade past Allysa and Kalyn's home, which is just a few blocks away. While we won't be able to play any silly games, we can show our love and support by dropping off gifts and goodies (or ordering ahead and having them delivered) and making a little noise!
Allysa and Kalyn are registered at babylist.com and are decorating Baby's space with all things chickens! They also could just use as many diapers as possible, so that is a simple gift that you could bring and deliver on Sunday. We will plan on doing our drive-by at 1:00 p.m.
Hope to see you! Please call Robin with any questions.
- Congregational Budget Meeting after worship ON ZOOM, Sunday, January 30th! Please make sure to be present to discuss and vote on Wayside's operational budget for 2022. More information, including the proposed budget and an agenda for the meeting, will be sent via email this week.
- We are still filling our food pantry! Please look below for what we're collecting this week!
- Make an In-Person or Zoom Appointment with Pastor Allysa here: https://calendly.com/pastordewolf/pastorcheckin
- Pastor Allysa's last Sunday before maternity leave will be February 6th (unless Baby Finnley decides to come sooner). She will be back the beginning of May. Our Interim Pastor, Steve King, will be with us during her time away.
- LAND USE OPPORTUNITIES: Earlier this year a few of us, including Pastor Allysa, had a few discussions about the use of the Wayside property for some modest development to provide housing for the unsheltered. We heard from the City of Federal Way as to some of the types of housing allowable (e.g., no high rise). We are not looking at any sort of intrusive mega-development. Then too, it is the wooded land nearest 21st that is appropriate. We subsequently met virtually with UCC partners – Dave Schoen from our Conference, and the Cornerstone Fund -- who gave us some advice and committed to be with us with their expertise. In other words, we’d have allies beside us. Most models already in use have produced income to the congregation. Development and construction are all covered by the nonprofit builder through public and private funding. Most tenants would pay one-third of their income. The region is eager to find space to develop housing for our unhoused neighbors, especially in areas as resident-friendly (non-central City sites) as ours.
If you are willing to be part of this discussion on behalf of Wayside, please contact me, the Church Office, or Pastor Allysa. I will be joining this conversation to bring regional voices to be with us.
Thanks,
The Rev. Bill Kirlin-Hackett,
Wayside member and Covenant Partner.
