Ninety-one final images. Two sets. One day. That was my challenge on a recent commercial assignment for First Onsite. They wanted dynamic images showing their cleanup process for offices with fire and flood damage.
On commercial shoots I typically like to shape light specific to each image on the shot list. No way that was going to be possible here. So I decided to approach the shoot like a documentary assignment. I set the lights once, then put the First Onsite crew to work, and "covered" them as they went. Lighting and framing was going to be imperfect, but I used that to my advantage as a way to add the energy First Onsite was looking for.
In post, I enhanced warm and cool tones to convey feelings of heat and wetness, respectively. I also added grain to augment the grittiness of the work. See more images from this story here.
