New role in Kent
Congratulations to Paul Bentley, who joined Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group as interim accountable officer on 17 January 2022.
In November 2021 Paul was confirmed as the Chief Executive designate of the NHS Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board, which is due to replace the CCG subject to legislation proceeding through Parliament.

SEHTA and YORBL sign up to the HTA
We've two updates to share from the Surrey Heartlands Health Tech Accelerator, an innovation and accelerator partnership based at the Surrey Clinical Research Building.
One of the HTA's key strengths is the range of experience that its Partners, of which we're one, and its Network bring. So we're delighted to be able to welcome SEHTA in to the HTA network - read more on the news here.
We're also very excited to announce that Yorbl Technologies will be the first Technology Enabled Care Services (TECS) company to join the HTA. Yorbl develops ground-breaking Digital Health and Care solutions that are focused on enabling users to live healthily, independently, and safely for as long as possible.

Join our board
We're recruiting two new Non-Executive Directors to the KSS AHSN board. If you have have strong connections with one or more of our ICS partnerships, academic or commercial alliances across the broader health sector and/or digital systems experience we'd love to hear from you.
We are also keen to hear from those who can bring disruptive innovation approaches, from a non-health background, which will contribute to new and different ways of thinking.

Darzi hosts sought
London South Bank University has opened recruitment for Host Organisations for the Darzi Fellowship Programme 2022-23, with successful host organisations then recruiting Fellows from March 2022.
The prestigious Darzi Fellowship has run for more than 10 years, with Darzi Fellows experiencing a unique combination of learning, development, innovation and leadership. There is an ever growing alumni of Darzi Fellows who have a clinical role or background coupled with the skills of systems leadership, and innovation.
As well as helping organisations develop their future leaders, the Fellowship work also generates real change in organisations, and health outcomes for local people.

Reducing the environmental impact of asthma inhalers
Speakers and topics have been announced for the AHSN Network’s next Delivering a net zero NHS online event, which will focus on reducing the environmental impact of asthma inhalers, concentrating on policies and pathways for adults.
The online event will take place on Tuesday 8 February, 10:30am to 12pm. Topics include NHS policy on inhaler use, reducing the over-use of SABA inhalers, asthma prescribing and greener practice, and pharmacy recycling schemes. Speakers include AHSN experts, Greener NHS, GPs and respiratory consultants.

Applications open for Chief Sustainability Officer’s Clinical Fellow Scheme
The NHS Chief Sustainability Officer’s Clinical Fellow Scheme offers clinicians with a passion for sustainability a unique opportunity to embed net zero carbon principles into the delivery of care – with the aim of improving health now and for generations to come.
Successful candidates will step out of clinical practice for 12 months to work in collaboration with NHS senior leadership, teams and partners to deliver on key projects that will accelerate progress towards a net zero health service.
They will gain an unparalleled understanding of health and climate change policy while developing strong leadership and management skills, supporting them to become sustainable healthcare leaders of the future.

Innovation funding for SMEs
The Business Enterprise Programmes team at the University of Surrey has launched its ‘SME Innovation Voucher Scheme 2022’ which funds collaborative projects between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and its network of academics.
The objective of the scheme is to cultivate closer ties and knowledge exchange between established UK SMEs and the University of Surrey, with a view to developing new partnerships and identifying opportunities for further collaboration.
The vouchers enable SMEs to harness the University’s world-class academic expertise and state-of-the-art facilities, explore complex challenges facing business, drive product innovation and most importantly accelerate growth.

Migrant Health Community of Experience
NIHR ARC KSS's is holding a Community of Experience on February 10 (2pm-4pm) focussing on female migrants and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC).
The even will be an opportunity for local authorities, health and voluntary and community organisations to hear from those with lived experiences, understand current services and ongoing research into the health of migrants and further discuss how to improve outcomes for migrants, including UASC, across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
The event agenda will cover:
- Hearing from the voices of lived experiences
- Mapping of Kent, Surrey and Sussex UASC services and data
- Research into the mental health of female migrants and how to improve access to support (Patrick Nyikavaranda)

Supporting patients with Long COVID

This webinar aims to provide NHS stakeholders involved in the management of Long COVID with a comprehensive overview of the C19-YRS; a clinically validated patient-reported outcome measure for use in Long COVID, which has been developed by the award-winning Leeds Long COVIDRehab Team, digitised by ELAROS, recommended by NHS England, and funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
It will be delivered by representatives from Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, The University of Leeds, and digital health company, ELAROS.
The webinar is open to NHS delegates and AHSN staff only.
