Be part of the 2027 Community of Prayer

We are the Diocese of Derby network of prayer – praying together, as we prepare to celebrate our centenary in 2027, for transformed lives in growing church and building community the length and breadth of our diocese.

Our shared prayer across the diocese is the frame that holds us together as God weaves the threads of our lives, our worship, witness and work for Christ, into something beautiful.

We hope that over the next five years 2027 people will commit to regular prayer, as individuals, and as churches, groups or schools.

Final total for the Bishop of Derby's Harvest Appeal 2021

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Bishop of Derby’s Harvest appeal this year supporting the vital work of St Elizabeth’s hostel in India providing housing and education to girls.

We raised £5,576 which will make a significant difference to the work they are able to engage with.

Esha's Everyday Faith story

Everyday Faith encourages us to explore what it means to be a Christian every day of the week – not just for a short time when we are in church on Sundays. People from across the Diocese of Derby are recording their chats and sharing them with us.

Royal School of Church Music Derbyshire Area Team announced

The new Royal School of Church Music Derbyshire Area Team has now been commissioned and we’re delighted to introduce them. The role of the Area Team is to raise the profile of and promote the RSCM and church music within Derbyshire, and to programme events for churches, clergy, musicians in Derbyshire and beyond.

Fairtrade Fortnight 2022

Fairtrade Fortnight
21 February to 6 March 2022

The annual Fairtrade Fortnight event will soon be here and churches are being encouraged to participate and share the news about the Fairtrade organisation.

This year the theme is "Choose the world you want" and with COP26 still fresh in our minds, it's more important than ever to show our support to Fairtrade farmers and workers.

Allchurches Trust invites grant applications for capital church building projects

If you’re running a church building project costing over £1million, you could be eligible for an Allchurches grant towards your funding. Smaller project applications are also welcome.

Appointments

From the Bishop of Derby's Office


The Revd Imogen Black will be licenced as Priest-in-Charge of Pinxton, and the Revd Steve Cotterill licenced as Assistant Curate (SSM-Associate Priest) of Pinxton, Diocese of Derby, on Sunday, 13 February 2022 at 4 pm by the Bishop of Repton assisted by the Archdeacon of Chesterfield.

The Revd Dr Peter Bold will be licenced as part-time Priest-in-Charge of Ashover and Brackenfield with Wessington and Assistant Curate (known as Minister Responsible) for Handley (within the benefice of North Wingfield), Diocese of Derby, on Sunday, 20 February 2022 at 3 pm at All Saints Ashover by the Bishop of Repton, assisted by the Archdeacon of Chesterfield.

The Revd Liz England, Team Rector-in-Charge of Buxton with Burbage and King Sterndale Team Ministry, has been appointed Team Rector of the same benefice following the lifting of Suspension of Presentation.

The Revd Michael Guest, Associate Priest (SSM) of Killamarsh and Renishaw, with special responsibility for Renishaw, has announced his retirement. Mr Guest’s last day in post was Tuesday, 25 January 2022, with his retirement taking effect from Wednesday, 26 January 2022. Mr Guest is applying to have the Bishop of Derby’s Permission to Officiate in retirement.

The Revd Pam Macnaughton will be licenced as Assistant Curate (SSM-Associate Priest) of Ripley, Diocese of Derby, on Sunday, 27 February 2022 at 6.30 pm at All Saints Ripley by the Bishop of Derby assisted by the Acting Archdeacon of Derby.

The Revd Alex Mann, Priest-in-Charge of Heath, Diocese of Derby, has been appointed Vicar of the same benefice following the lifting of Suspension of Presentation.

The Revd Gary Weston will be licenced as Priest-in-Charge of Brampton St Thomas and Assistant Curate (Associate Priest) of Brampton St Mark, Diocese of Derby, on Sunday, 3 April 2022 at 6 pm at St Thomas’ Brampton by the Bishop of Derby assisted by the Archdeacon of Chesterfield.

The Revd Leonard Young, Vicar of Derby St Bartholomew and St Luke, Diocese of Derby, has announced his retirement. Mr Young’s last day in post will be Monday, 31 January 2022, with his retirement taking effect from Tuesday, 1 February 2022. Leonard will be moving away from the diocese in retirement.

The previous grouping of parishes within the two benefices was incorrect in a previous announcement.

The Revd Derek Arnold will be licenced as Priest-in-Charge of Seale and Lullington with Coton in the Elms, and Priest-in-Charge of Walton-on-Trent with Croxall, Rosliston with Linton and Castle Gresley, Diocese of Derby, on Saturday, 19 February 2022 at 3 pm.

Administration Assistant

Derby Cathedral Chapter are seeking an Administration Assistant to ensure the Cathedral’s statutory obligations towards Safeguarding training and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks are met, together with other administration duties in the Cathedral Office.

20 hours per week over Monday - Friday

CofE's January to April Environment programme

 
This is part of a series of webinars and events designed to support and equip churches to reach the ambitious ‘net zero carbon emissions target. Sessions being run include:
  • environmental fundraising
  • best heating and lighting solutions
  • net zero carbon topics covering heat pumps, "conservation pitfalls en route to net zero", how to navigate the faculty system, assessing embodied carbon in retrofit projects, and net zero schools 
  • Eco Church
  • a new “Season of Creation” series, on different aspects of environmental worship

CofE net-zero carbon consultation

 
The CofE has launched a consultation on how ‘the whole Church of England of achieving ‘net-zero’ carbon by 2030’.

The consultation is primarily aimed at national Church bodies, diocesan structures and cathedrals; however, the webpage stresses that everyone can respond: ‘the views of others are vital to achieving the overall goal. Responses from parishes, schools, and individuals are welcome. All respondents will be asked to specify in which capacity they are responding.

The consultation closes Monday, 28 February 2022.
