UMA WEEKLY UPDATE
January 21, 2022
Thank you UMA community, for your diligence, perseverance and patience during our shift to distance learning and our return back to in person learning. Our continuing Covid mitigation strategies are:
  • Well fitting masks must be properly worn at all times.
  • Well fitting means the mask is above the nose, and below the chin with no gaps around the cheeks or nose. If you have access to N95s, KF94s or KN94s we recommend students wear them. If you are in need of a more protective mask please ask upon arrival.
  • Masks must be worn on school buses and public transportation at all times.
  • Students need to use reusable water bottles, instead of drinking from the fountains. If your student needs a water bottle, please ask upon arrival.
  • As we did before our shift to distance learning, students will be eating in smaller groups in designated classrooms.
  • Campus will remain open for 10-12th grade next week and beginning on 1/31 eligible 9th graders may leave campus for lunch.
  • We will continue to send home rapid at home test kits weekly as we are able.
  • If your child has permission we are able to use rapid tests  for students and staff who do not feel well.
  • Test your child before returning to school either Sunday, January 23 or Monday, January 24th
Please continue to report any positive cases to UMA and keep them home if they have symptoms. Our protocols are linked here.

UMA Juniors Need Your Support
The Junior class at UMA have been working on a service project this semester to support some of the most vulnerable of our community by creating a food and fund drive. Unfortunately the covid virus had other plans!

The collection of food items became difficult while UMA was in distance learning - so we have beat the virus and created a virtual drive here!

We appreciate your support of Second Harvest Heartland on behalf of UMA - and we appreciate the support of our service project in this difficult time.

Thank you,

UMA Juniors

What's Happening at School
While in the throes of winter, students & faupload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/a/a3/20...milies can be armchair athletes during the upcoming Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, February 4 - 20.  Minnesota is represented by 29 athletes which makes it even more exciting to watch and follow. Now if playing in the snow on a fine winter day and building snow figures could be an Olympic sport, UMA students would be ready to compete.

Free COVID-19 Rapid Tests
You may now order one set of four free at-home tests from USPS.com. Please note the following:

  • There is a limit of orders per US residential address

  • One order includes four individual rapid antigen COVID-19 tests

  • Orders will ship free, starting in late January 2022

To place an order, visit https://special.usps.com/testkits and complete the form.

COVID-19 testing is critical to slowing the spread of COVID-19 variants, including Delta and Omicron. Learn more about all of Minnesota’s community testing sites.

Get Vaccinated!
All eligible Minnesotans are encouraged to get vaccinated and boosted. Minnesota is offering boosters at the state’s Mall of America (16+) and MSP Airport (18+) vaccine sites as well as other state-run and state-hosted 5- to 11-year-old vaccine clinics, including those hosted at schools.

Minnesotans can find boosters anywhere vaccines are offered. For ages 18 and over, the booster dose does not have to be the same brand of vaccine as your initial series. Minnesotans 16 and 17 years old must get a Pfizer booster shot. Visit mn.gov/vaccine or contact a provider to get boosted and vaccinated. Find information specifically about boosters here.

Friendly reminder students need to wear a mask while on school buses to and from school each day.  They should not leave the house without a mask, a required school supply.

Do you have a KN95 or N95 mask and want to reuse it?  These sturdy masks can be used more than once. This article gives information on how to safely reuse and know when to dispose of it.
