Lunch at the Brouge for Hampton Society members

Newsletter date: 19 January, 2022

Dear Hampton Society supporter,

A belated happy new year to you all. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas with friends and family.

Rosemary Hill, our events organiser, has a new suggestion for our regular new year lunch. I also have information regarding so more London Luminaries talks from Catherine Parry-Wingfield.

The Extraoardinary Atlantic Challenge girls are doing remarkably well and there is an update below.

We are also planning to hold a quiz night in the next couple of months so keep an eye out for further information on that.

Kind regards,

William Redfern

Lunch at the Brouge
for Hampton Society members

In the past few years, The Hampton Society has always aimed to have a lunch in January for members and this has been held at Richmond College, with the lunch being cooked and served by the students.

Sadly, this option is no longer available but there is the possibility of holding a lunch at Brouge Gastropub in Fulwell. The address is 241 Hampton Road, very close to Squire’s Garden Centre and the R70 stops just opposite.

Brouge can offer us a dedicated space and a two or three course lunch priced at either £15.95 (2 courses) or £18.95 (3 courses) on Friday, 28 January or Friday 4 February.

Now that the dangers of Covid are beginning to lessen, could you let me know if you would like to have lunch at Brouge which comes with a glowing recommendation from one of our members, and which date would suit you best.

Depending on the number of members who respond, we will go for the date requested by the greater number of people.

I very much look forward to hearing from you, either by email here or phone.

Extraoardinary Atlantic Challenge Update

Charlotte, Abby and Kat in Hawaiian shirts celebrating New Year’s Day

Following our feature in the winter newsletter, Kat, Abby and Charlotte are just 327 nautical miles (nm) away from reaching Antigua on their incredible row across the Atlantic. They are managing an average of 70nm a day which means they should reach port before the target date they set of 30 January – Charlotte’s birthday.
Currently Extraoardinary are:
21st overall
20th in Race Class
5th in Race Trio (teams can be from solo to up to five rowers)
3rd in Female Class

They have had some remarkable experiences, such as waves as high as a two-storey house and this recent encounter:

“With around a week to go, the team are having a whale of a time 🐋 Yesterday afternoon they were visited by a pod of around 50 minke whales. There so many that it took these amazing animals about 45 minutes to swim past. The whales were inquisitive and came over to look at the boat. The ladies temporarily downed their oars to soak up the absolutely incredible moment.” (see video on Instagram)

Keep going – nearly there!

How to support the girls
If you would like to support the girls on this incredible challenge and help them hit their target of £100,000 for their chosen cancer charities, you can make a donation through their GoFundMe crowd funding account.
