Radon gas is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smoking adults and the second leading cause in smoking adults. Although the majority of radon tests are performed during a real estate transaction, you should have your current home tested periodically. One in every three homes in Kansas will test at 4.0 PC/L or above. This 4.0 PC/L is the action level recommended by the FDA to mitigate radon gas.The FDA also recommends home owners test every two years or after major renovations. In short, if your house tests above the threshold you have an increased risk of developing lung cancer so know your home's radon level.
