The Living & Learning team is excited to welcome our community back in Term 1. Whilst Victoria is currently experiencing a COVID wave, plans are in place for Term 1 to commence as close to normal as possible. All people attending Living & Learning Nillumbik centres and all other Nillumbik Shire Council facilities must be fully vaccinated or have a medical exemption. In order to participate in any on-site programs or activities, you will need to have received the first and second dose of a COVID-19 vaccination and be able to provide evidence of your fully vaccinated status.  For more information see our COVID Update.

Living & Learning Diamond Creek is set to embrace blended delivery of language classes, thanks to an enterprising tutor and a Stronger Communities grant from the State Government last year. The new webcam, smart TV and conferencing microphone/speakers will enable tutors or participants to join the classroom remotely, minimising disruptions due to COVID. Let the fun begin!

Term 1 sees us welcoming back some familiar faces to the Living & Learning team. Kristy is back from 12 months maternity leave and rejoins the Customer Support team. Erin also returns after 12 months maternity leave and resumes her role as Neighbourhood House Coordinator for Eltham. Leanne has returned to her role as Team Leader - Business Support after a 6 month secondment as a Social Connections Officer. It's so wonderful to have the team all back together.

Vanessa will be continuing on with the team in a new role with Living & Learning Nillumbik as the Learning Hub Facilitator. This role will support our new Carer's Hub and the Learn Local programs delivered by Living & Learning.

Please ask staff or volunteers if you need clarification about anything.

We hope you enjoy your course or activity. Remember to like our Facebook and Instagram pages as we’ll also be sharing all updates and online opportunities there.

What's on at Living & Learning

Introducing L&LN's Carer's Hub

Living & Learning Nillumbik are pleased to launch a new initiative for 2022 – a designated Carer’s Hub that aims to support unpaid carers in Nillumbik Shire and surrounding areas by providing a range of health, wellbeing, social connection and employment pathway activities.

The Carer's Hub will provide access for unpaid carers of all ages to a diverse range of programs and referral services specifically designed around carer’s individual needs and caring responsibilities.

Key focus areas are:
  • to provide social connection opportunities with other carers to come together in a relaxed and informal environment
  • health and wellbeing activities including art, clay, music, yoga, and mindfulness sessions (various free and subsidised sessions available)
  • activities to support skills and job readiness including career mentoring and sponsored/funded/subsidised one-off workshops such as resume-writing
  • training support to transition into employment or support flexible employment opportunities whilst maintaining their caring role
  • support micro businesses and networking opportunities
Carers highlighted the need for easy access to local services within close proximity to their homes. Hub related activities will be offered from the four Living & Learning sites in Eltham, Diamond Creek and Panton Hill as well as online.

If you provide unpaid care and support to a family member, friend or neighbour and would like to find out more about what is on offer for you, please provide your details in this form here.
Are you a carer?

A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to family members and/or friends with a disability, mental illness, chronic health issue or an older person with care needs. They are parents, children, partners, other relatives and friends who assist with a variety of personal care, health care, transport, administrative support, cognitive emotional tasks, household chores and other activities.

If this is you, we would love to hear from you.
