Tie The Griffith's Gnat

The Griffith's Gnat is one of the most recognizable and effective dry fly midge patterns. The simplicity of the pattern belies its effectiveness. Typically used to imitate a midge cluster, the Griffith's Gnat can be fished as a dry fly or in the surface film making it a versatile winter-time pattern.

This pattern, tied here by Darren MacEchern of the Piscator Flies YouTube Channel, is very easy to tie - even in smaller sizes. This is a must have fly for any trout flyfisher.

Did you know we have a Fly Tying Video Library on our website? It has over 1,000 fly tying videos from notable tiers featuring flies for cold water, warm water, saltwater and steelhead. You can also find videos on techniques and general instruction. Check it out and find something new to tie this winter!
