Happy Friday, friends.

While scouring the web for today’s headlines, we came across a Reddit thread that we thought would be of interest to you and wanted to share. u/TollyMune posted to the Pittsburgh subreddit that they were looking for a place to donate women’s warm clothing, and was having trouble finding an organization that took the gently worn items. Pittsburghers pulled through with suggestions and in case you’re looking too — this list is a good place to start. If you don’t see your go-to org, be sure to drop it in the comments, and send us an email too so that we can share as well.

Alright, now about those headlines…

🗣 What Pittsburgh is talking about

📅 The annual Pittsburgh Racial Justice Summit kicks off tonight, and you can partake from your couch. “Sit down” for a fireside chat with renowned, award-winning, best-selling Pittsburgh writers: Damon Young, Deesha Philyaw, and Brian Broome. (You can read their bios here.) Then tomorrow, virtually attend a number of wellness sessions and workshops exploring topics like “Intersections of racial and gender justice in public policy” and “Even Nice People Have Unconscious Biases & Commit Racial Microaggressions.” Get the full scoop at the link. ➡️ (NEXTPittsburgh)

🌮 Baby Loves Tacos is opening a new spot next door called Give and Go Sandos, Trace Brewing is now carrying After the Fall Cider, Oliver’s Donuts will celebrate its grand opening next weekend, and DiAnoia’s Eatery has plans to host a five-course mocktail dinner on Jan. 30. Find more tasty morsels of information about the ‘Burgh’s food scene in the following article. (Pittsburgh City Paper)

The city lights are pretty, but they can be harmful too. If you do nothing else this weekend, read this fascinating article about Astronomer and Carnegie Mellon University lecturer Diane Turnshek. She’s also an author and an activist, and she’s currently leading the way for Pittsburgh’s new Dark Sky ordinances, which you can catch up on here. (NEXTPittsburgh)

🍿 Tom Hanks is heading back to Pittsburgh to film another movie. He’s playing the lead in the U.S. adaptation of a 2015 Swedish film, “A Man Called Ove,” which is also an international best-seller. Filming is set to start in February and much of it will take place in Bellvue, according to the Post-Gazette. The last movie Hanks filmed in Pittsburgh was “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” (KDKA / TribLive

🎟 “Gay Wrestlemania.” That’s how Enjoy Wrestling ring announcer Meg Fair described this weekend’s match. The Pittsburgh-based independent wrestling promotion company will present Striking Distance at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale tomorrow at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25, and proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required. This ain’t your Uncle Billy’s wrestling show. 😉 (Pittsburgh City Paper)

✍️ The Unspoken Rules of Pittsburgh

In case you didn't know ... (🎨: Haley Weaver / The Incline)

As citizens of Pittsburgh, there are a lot of laws we are supposed to follow. But what if there was a completely separate list of rules that all yinzers should know about — and what if they weren’t actually written down anywhere?

Sounds crazy, but a few years back, our Facebook friends came up with plenty of unspoken rules that keep Pittsburgh in line. We sifted through all 50+ of them and created this illustration that went viral in late 2019 with a lot of love, a little hate, and a bunch of additional ideas.

In the love category, our favorite comment came from @fooduzzi, who said, “I literally cannot love @theinclinepgh’s posts more. They remind me that being a Pittsburgher is weird. But I love it. #pittsburghproud”

As for hate, there was a lot of anger over the parking chair. Read about it in the comments, if you dare.

And then there were also some must-adds in the new idea category, but you’ll need to head here to read ‘em

Maybe it’s time we refresh our list. If you’ve got your own unspoken rule, tell us about ‘em by replying to this email.

One last thing

Because we always like to leave you better than we found you, here’s a fun quiz from Pittsburgh City Paper that determines which notorious Pittsburgh intersection you are. We got the “Penn and Center Avenues, East Liberty — You appear to be pretty simple on paper, but once people dig deeper, they find something unexpected about you.” Please do tell us if you get the same.

Stay safe and warm out there folks. We’ll meet you back here on Tuesday.
