Brain Power student, Pat Nova, currently in Grade 12 at University of Toronto Schools, got into Stanford University! Pat plans to study biology with a focus in molecular, cell, and developmental biology.

Joanna Huang Wins First Place in In Focus 2021 Writing Contest

Michael Peng Selected for Johns Hopkins CTY Program
Brain Power student Michael Peng has been selected for the prestigious Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) program!
The CTY program is is a nonprofit dedicated to identifying and developing the talents of academically advanced pre-college students around the world.

Mark Raspopov Wins Several Math and Science Competitions
Brain Power student Mark Raspopov won several awards last month!
WOW!
He earned a perfect score and 6 Gold awards for the Gray Jay Competition (three overall awards for Grades 8 and under and three awards for Grade 5).
He earned a perfect score for the American Math Olympiad (AMO) and was ranked #1 in the world.
He also became the World Champion for the International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO) and received a Gold medal.
He was also ranked #1 globally for the i-STEM Science Contest as well.
He is qualified for the Final Round which will be in Germany in July 2022.

Dr. Karine Rashkovsky Awarded the Order of Vaughan
On December 21, 2021, Dr. Karine Rashkovsky, Founder and Director of Brain Power, received the Order of Vaughan, which “recognizes individuals who have been influential in shaping our city and contributed to the greater good of the community.”
At the ceremony, Karine accepted her award from Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua, and several Brain Power alumni presented heartfelt speeches about their journeys through the years with Brain Power.

Thoughts on Brain Power: I had class with Jason for the better part of four years, and it was nothing but pleasurable. As someone who was not born in an English speaking country, Jason made me interested in English and helped me learn about how to approach literature and writing as a whole, which helped in every aspect of my life. Without Jason, I would not have had the same success I have now.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Awards give students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. In 2021, students across America entered nearly 230,000 original works in 28 different categories of art and writing.
The Global Youth Challenge is a worldwide competition that consists of public speaking, essay writing, and creative projects that grapple with the topic of artificial intelligence and the impact that it will have on humanity.
Youths from around the world will be required to submit a 300 - 500 word essay plus a one-minute video speech, or a visual artwork plus a one-minute video speech.
Each entry will examine the possible benefits and potential harm and threat that artificial intelligence poses to humanity through different perspectives.
WHAT: You can submit your original, unpublished works of nonfiction up to 2,000 words. There is no minimum word count.
WHEN: The 2022 CBC Nonfiction Prize is open for submissions until Feb. 28, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
WHO: All Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
WHAT YOU CAN WIN: The winner receives $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, will have their story published on CBC Books and will have the opportunity to attend a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Four finalists will each receive $1,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts and have their story published on CBC Books.
The Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story's 18th Annual Literary Short Story Competition for Emerging Writers is now open.
The Short Story competition is an opportunity for writers to explore the short story, a literary art form made popular by 2013 Nobel Laureate Alice Munro.
YOUTH: $500.00 PRIZE WITH TWO ADDITIONAL SECONDARY PRIZES OF $250.00 EACH.
