HAH's 2022 Legislative Priorities

The Hawaii State Legislature convened its 2022 session this week, and during the coming months the Healthcare Association of Hawaii will be focusing on a number of advocacy-related priorities.

These will be focused on healthcare workforce, patient flow, guardianship, timely payments, and health equity. Specifically, HAH will be advocating for funding relief for nursing facilities who have received little to no federal support for staffing, even as the delta and omicron surges put immense pressure on those organizations.

The legislative priorities have been extensively discussed by HAH members and the Advocacy Committee in advance of the session opening.

Last year HAH successfully sought reauthorization of the hospital and nursing facility sustainability programs. The programs must be reauthorized every two years, and have brought in millions of federal dollars to help cover the difference between the cost of care and what Medicaid reimburses.

HAH thanks its members for their ongoing support. Please direct any advocacy related questions to Paige Heckathorn Choy at pchoy@hah.org.

Welcome Brianne Walker!

HAH welcomes Brianne Walker to the team as the Manager of Quality Programs.

Walker started her career providing administrative support at a large hospital-based system in Hawaii. Humble beginnings gave her the opportunity to build an understanding and appreciation for patient-centered, value-based care across various stakeholders in our complex healthcare system.

Over the last twelve years, she has supported, analyzed, managed, and consulted on clinical transformation for improved health outcomes.

She earned an undergraduate degree in Health Administration and Policy, and a certificate in Business Administration, from Creighton University.

Walker is passionate about improving healthcare in Hawaii and is excited to join the HAH team.

Correction to Article: Welcome New HHEM Maui County Area Coordinator

Donovan Keli`ipuleole replaces Gail Miyahira as the new HHEM Maui Area Coordinator. Gail retired after 9 years not 20 years as the HHEM Maui Area Coordinator.

This is the correction to last week's article welcoming Keli`ipuleole as the new HHEM Maui Area Coordinator.  We are sorry for the error.
