SEOS appeals to everybody, but is an especially great opportunity for the artist or maker starting out on their creative journey – it is a great way of getting your work out there without having to ‘exhibit’ which can be both expensive and scary. We delight in the knowledge that some of our more established artists still take an active part in SEOS every year – it forms a part of their annual planning in amongst all the big London shows and prize-winning!
Kate Schuricht explains why SEOS works for her:
Over a decade ago, I was new to the area and SEOS was a fantastic way for me to meet and connect with other artists and local customers. It really helped to put me on the map and it continues to be a pivotal show in my busy exhibition calendar.
SEOS helped me to establish an enriching and supportive artist network, leading to exciting collaborations with other creatives. Meeting the public in my own work and home environment is a rewarding and successful experience for both visitor and artist. It has led to some good sales, an ever-growing customer base and a range of interesting commissions and opportunities. I feel really proud to be part of such a highly considered Open Studios event.
I love the way that visitors are so excited to see artwork on show outside of a gallery setting. Opening our homes and workspaces to the public offers a greater sense of engagement, as the public can ask questions, see demonstrations of different art forms, buy artwork and sign up for workshops. SEOS visitors often become loyal customers and good friends. It is so beneficial to be part of a well coordinated event, with such a good reputation.
