Department Highlights

Core Music Tutoring

Core music tutoring services at Berklee provide students with one-on-one and group assistance in order to help them reach their potential. These services are offered to all students currently enrolled in Berklee’s core music courses including Fundamentals of Ear Training, Music Fundamentals, Music Application and Theory, Harmony 2–4, Ear Training 1–4, Solfege 1–2, Arranging 1–2, Tonal Harmony and Composition 1–2, Art of Counterpoint, and Conducting 1. Students are able to sign up starting on the first day of classes each semester.

Our tutors are all Berklee undergraduate students in their upper semesters who have displayed great proficiency in our core music curriculum. They are also certified by the College Reading and Learning Association through trainings offered in our program.

Family spotlight

Meet the Charland family from Andover, Massachusetts, and Berklee student Kai Charland.

Favorite Activity: Downhill skiing
Favorite Show/Concert: Kai and his dad share the same affinity for music (metal, deathcore metal)—his brother and mom are still warming up to it! One of their favorite concerts they attended together was Bring Me the Horizon. While Kai loves to body surf, dad not so much!
About Their Student: Kai originally wanted to play drums, but his parents put the kibosh on that as they did not have the space nor inclination to listen to a young Kai practicing drums in the house! So they suggested guitar instead. Kai took to it instantly and had a wonderful instructor who radiated positivity and encouragement and that was it—Kai was hooked. Acoustic guitar eventually led to electric guitar and then the seeds were fully sown after a week at Day Sessions at Berklee in 2017, followed by Berklee Five-Week. Kai is now a second-semester student with electric guitar as his principal and an interest in the Contemporary Writing and Production Department.
