Future Turtles Newsletter #2

Hey <<First Name>>!

Burning Man sells out instantly every year, so you have to be strategic and plan ahead if you want to score tickets!

Most important things to know:

  • All turtles must register for the main sale on March 23rd

  • All turtles must participate in the main sale on March 30th at 12pm PDT

  • Even if you have tickets from another source, we ask you to participate in the main sale, to help us get tickets for everyone.

Go put that in your calendar, and meet me back here, I’ll wait!

More Details

Read the official guide first:

Tickets are transferable so you can resell them (at face value) if you end up with more tickets than you need. Burning Man always sells out so you will never be stuck with an extra ticket.

Each year we work together to get as many tickets as we can to cover our campers.

Tickets are typically sold in pairs. Even if you are coming by yourself, if you have a chance to buy a ticket, buy two and sell one to another turtle who might not have been successful scoring a ticket. We’ll help connect you.

All ticket sales take place in two steps. First, there is an online “registration” to buy tickets. Then, at a fixed time, you can actually buy the tickets online… but only if you registered! Always remember to put BOTH days on your calendar: the registration and the sale.

The FOMO Sale

If you have some extra money and want to be ASSURED of a chance to attend Burning Man, the first sale, the FOMO sale, usually does not sell out quickly and you have a good chance of getting tickets. However because they are more expensive ($1500 or $2500 instead of $575) these tickets can be tricky to resell.

The Stewards Sale

We will have a limited number of tickets available in the Stewards Sale for key camp members who are helping to build the camp, or department leads running major projects and initiatives. There are not nearly enough for everyone. More information on that soon.

The Ticket Aid Program

If you can’t afford the normal $575 price, check out the Ticket Aid Program. We’ve had people successfully score tickets this way in previous years.

The Main Sale

When the main sale rolls around in March, we ask every turtle to participate in the online sale (which is basically a lottery) to try to score tickets. The hope is that we can gather enough tickets this way to give to anyone who didn’t get one in the previous sales.

  • Even if you got a ticket through FOMO or Stewards or elsewhere, please plan to help us score tickets for everyone by participating in the main sale. You’ll need a different credit card because Burning Man only allows two tickets per card. If you get tickets you don’t need yourself, we’ll find someone to sell them to, at face value.

  • Even if we end up with too many tickets for our camp, we have lots of friends in other camps that will happily buy our spare tickets.

  • We will all hang out in a Zoom call together during the main sale to share strategies and keep track of how many tickets we score. That way if, by some huge coincidence, we end up with more tickets than we need, we can stop buying tickets!

Questions?

If you have any questions about the ticket sale process, the best way to get them answered would be on our Discord on the discussion channel. As a reminder, we will also be having an all-hands meeting in New York on March 6th and will no doubt discuss ticketing then.
