This event is open to all members of the healthcare community. The concept of ibasho—a Japanese term meaning a place where one feels a sense of belonging and purpose, and is accepted as oneself—challenges prevalent perceptions about aging. The Ibasho approach recognizes elders as valuable assets to their community, empowering them to be active participants and changing the harmful outcomes created by society’s negative perceptions and expectations—social isolation, a loss of dignity and respect, and a sense of uselessness and irrelevance. The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health along with the Hawaiʻi Pacific Foundation presents our first session of the Spring 2022 Ke Aʻo Mau, Learning Preserved, community lecture series. The series is focused on Native Hawaiian knowledge, practice, and principles related to social justice and health.
Dr. Osorio is a professor and Dean of Hawaiʻinuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge. He received his PhD in History from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. At Kamakūokalani Center for Hawaiian studies, he has developed and taught classes in history, literature, law as culture, music as historical texts, and research methodologies for and from indigenous peoples. He is also a composer and singer and has been a Hawaiian music recording artist since 1975.

Listen to the Silence 2022: Liberation Beyond Borders
Hosted by Stanford University's Asian American Student Association
Listen to the Silence (LTS) is Stanford University's annual Asian and Asian American issues conference organized by Stanford’s Asian American Student Association (AASA), featuring speakers, workshops, and a concert.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Liberation Beyond Borders,” which explores the theme of what being “Asian American” truly means by:
· Challenging the prevalent definition of “Asian American” to include South, Central, and West Asian perspectives;
· Underscoring the transnational nature of the Asian struggle and its inextricable ties to anti-capitalism, Black liberation, and Indigenous sovereignty;
· Expanding our frame of thought from within the movement against oppressive systems in the US to the struggle for liberation on a global scale.
The 26th annual Listen to the Silence 2022 Conference aims to inspire the hope, love, and community that sustains the movement of collective liberation as it transcends our ideas of borders. We all have a role to play in this work, whether it’s donating to grassroots community organizations, coordinating volunteers for direct actions, having difficult conversations with our families, or lobbying for legislation that fights for an anti-imperial future.
LTS works to provide a FREE platform to discuss these issues and form cross-cultural coalitions to tackle them. The conference is open to everyone, including college students and community members 18+, in order to provide a space that encompasses a wide variety of perspectives. The conference will be hosted on Zoom for COVID safety reasons but will also enable any and all to attend without travel restrictions.

Advancing Environmental Health Equity through Implementation Science Virtual Workshop
Registration is now open for the Advancing Environmental Health Equity through Implementation Science Virtual Workshop held on Monday, February 28th & Tuesday, March 1st, 2022!
Our environment, including exposures in the physical, built, and social environments, can negatively affect the health of individuals and communities. These environmental exposures disproportionately impact racial and ethnic minority groups, disadvantaged and under-resourced communities. Given the interconnectedness of the environment with individual- and structural-level social determinants of health, ensuring equitable implementation of interventions, programs, and policies that prevent or mitigate these environmental exposures is urgently needed. Implementation science is the study of methods to promote the adoption and integration of evidence-based interventions, programs, and policies into community, public health, and clinical settings. The purpose of this workshop is to explore how environmental health scientists can use implementation science to inform the development, adaptation, implementation and scale-up of interventions, practices, and policies to prevent and/or mitigate potentially harmful environmental exposures and ultimately advance environmental health equity.
Workshop topics include:
- What is Implementation Science & Why does it Matter for Environmental Health?
- Implementation Science in the Context of Environmental Health
- Disparities & Environmental Justice Research
- Evidence-Based Prevention & Interventions
- Emerging Environmental Health Issues (e.g., climate change, disasters)
- Community & Multi-Sectoral Partnerships

Professional Development (PD) and Community Engagement and Outreach (CEO) Project Assistant for Center for Pacific Innovations, Knowledge, and Opportunities (PIKO)
PIKO is seraching for a Project Assistant. The job duties are as follows:
- Assists the Core Director(s) with tracking and evaluation activities, interfacing with other PIKO Core teams and their program assistants, and providing regular communication to all Cores and partners
- Assists with community partner surveys and interviews. Assists with creating infographics of research findings.
- Oversees the collection of applicable evaluation metrics specific to each Core. Inputs metrics into the database and submits reports as needed.
- Coordinates workshops and trainings which includes the Capacity Building and Immersion Workshop, GUMSHOE trainings and other applicable training for the PIKO PD and CEO Core’s

SECE Online MPH Program Student Assistant
Join the Office of Public Health Studies and support
the new online Master of Public Health.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Online MPH faculty coordinator and with close collaboration of the Office of Public Health Studies student services team, respond to email and phone inquiries about program admissions and eligibility, communicate requirements of the program and assist applicants to access needed information for application submission, process and prepare documents required for faculty review, update data files and logs regarding program actions, draft program materials as directed, prepare and provide updates to faculty coordinator on application status and any challenges, document and troubleshoot issues that may emerge, attend team meetings and prepare minutes, other duties as assigned. Estimate 8-10 hours per week, schedule decided upon with supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- Classified University of Hawaiʻi graduate student
- Current GPA of 3.2 or higher
- Knowledge of graduate programs as evidenced by coursework and/or experience
- Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office software
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Detail oriented and organized
- Must be responsible, dependable and efficient
- Comply with confidentiality and data security protocols

The CREATE at UH Cancer Research Internship Program offers first-year graduate students at University of Hawaiʻi, Hawaiʻi Pacific University, Chaminade University, or the University of Guam the opportunity to gain a 1-semester research experience in population sciences a multiethnic environment or unique cancer biology labs with the goal to enhance their skills to address cancer disparities, causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer and to improve competitiveness in their future careers in cancer-related research. UCLA Summer Public Health Scholars Training Program
The UCLA Public Health Scholars Training Program is a summer program that provides undergraduate students the opportunity to explore the field of public health through hands-on training, structured workshops, and professional development. Over the course of 8 weeks (June 19- August 13, 2022) students participate in internships with community partners 3 days per week and educational programming 2 days per week. During the summer, scholars attend a conference at the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia with Public Health Scholars from other programs across the nation. This is a paid internship, and students are provided housing and stipends. The application for Summer 2022 is due Monday, January 31, 2022.
