Glocal's Going Ons

We are more than half way through January and Glocal continues to be busy. Since Glocal is now totally on its own, there has been a lot of work to get processes, policies, financials, etc. going. Nick and Michelle have been the power team of getting the financial systems figured out with a lot of time asking consultants what to do. It's been pretty amazing to see things come together but there still seems to be a lot of work ahead.

As we juggle the building of our own non-profit, we have continued with all the regular programs. Nancy and team have continued packing housing kits, Carolyn, Berna and teams have continued with furniture donations and moving items into places, Michelle and team have continued with delivering baby items, and most of us have been involved with welcoming many of the Afghans to Boise. English was hoping to start last week but with the Covid numbers up, we are taking it a week at a time. We are cautiously hopeful for this coming week. Our next newsletter will share a bit more about the latest activity to the zoo.

Thank you again for your continued generosity and prayers for Glocal. These are crazy times with so many opportunities to love and welcome newcomers to our area.

Glocal Needs and Prayers
  • Friendship Partners Needed: We are excited that we are seeing friendship partner connections being made. Several new families and single men are having opportunities to get to know many of you. Thank you for that. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Laura at 208 440-6660 or email lauraa@glocalboise.org
  • Trainings: If you haven't had a training or you know someone who would like to take a training. Our next date for a training is Feb. 3. It's almost full but we plan on having a training once a month. Will let you know when the next one is. The link for registering for the training is on a button below.
  • Moving Teams:  IRC has asked a couple of times in the last couple of weeks for help with moving people out of the hotel to their new apartment. Our regular Donation/Moving Teams don't do this so we are looking for people who might be willing to help with only a day or two notice. If you would like to be put on a list to help with this, please contact Laura. Most of the arrivals have lived in the hotel for a couple of months so it's a true joy to see them get into their own place.
  • Grocery Driver:  A mom, son and nephew live off of State Street and are looking for help getting to Winco once a week or every other week. If you are able to help with this, let me know.
  • Furniture Needs: Thank you for many of you who have donated furniture in the past. There is always a need for coffee tables and end tables in good condition. Contact Carolyn if you have any furniture to donate. carolynl@glocalboise.org.
  • Housing Kit Needs:  We have been so blessed by so many donations in kind for both baby showers and Housing kits. With the numbers of arrivals still to come, we will continue to need items. You can check out our Amazon or Walmart buttons below or contact Nancy with housing items (909) 289-3231‬ or Michelle for Baby donations michellel@glocalboise.org.
  • Please Pray:
    • For continued wisdom in moving forward as a non-profit- organization, processes, new board members, finances, etc.
    • For the many families and singles who are arriving to Boise from primarily Afghanistan at this time. The military bases where the last of the initial evacuees from Afghanistan have been, are closing by Feb. 15. Pray for these families to be welcomed into new places through out the U.S. Pray for those arriving in Boise that we can show welcome and love for each one placed here.
    • HOUSING - this is such a huge, constant  need right now. Pray for apartments to open up and for creative ways to provide homes for new arrivals. Interested in helping, check out: www.houseyourneighbor.org

From the bottom of our HEARTS, THANK YOU for being a part of the amazing work God is doing through Glocal.
