Meet Nabi, the yoga nidra lovin' kitty
What kind of relationships would you like to cultivate? Does a deep, trusting connection to others feel comfortable? Often we find these relationships with partners, plants, or pets. Cultivating outward relationships is great practice for having a nurturing relationship inwards, with ourselves. Having a great relationship with yourself is hard! We so often judge and even hate ourselves. Luckily, these two kinds of relationships are not mutually exclusive. We can love on a pet and also work on loving ourselves. So, in practicing what I preach, I'm excited to introduce you to my new ride or die, little Nabi kitty!

She's 4 years old and a teeny 6 pounds. When I met her at the Anti-Cruelty Society, she was shy, quiet, and zonked out from surgery. She really wanted to be pet, but was afraid to receive it. Know  what I mean? When she finally allowed me to hold her, she became a purr machine, rubbing her forehead under my chin and wanting so much to be accepted. Talk about love at first site. Les sigh.

When we got home, she was freaked out and squirmy, unsure of where she was and how she wanted to be. She kept hiding under the bed, coming out to be close to me, then whoosh, back under the bed. Can you relate?

We chilled all day. Then, when I lay down to practice yoga nidra, aka conscious relaxation, it's like she knew we were in for deep rest and bonding. She crawled onto my chest and smothered my face with her backside, deeply purring and collapsing into me. Love this cat! Together, we practiced the kind of deep relaxation that's intended to bring yourself closer to who you really are, a being whose already in purrfect relationship with everything.

We've been kicking it comfortably, ever since. She's resting, eating a lot, and pooping where she needs to (thank you, cat goddesses). She still startles when I sneeze, but you know how cats do. I love my new buddy and I love how she loves practicing deep rest with me. I wish for all that you also have a trusting relationship that can deepen as you grow, and where you consciously relax together.
