Our friends at Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Boston are looking for transgender and non-binary mentors for LGBTQ+ identified youth. They have two children with an immediate need for support, along with a pipeline of youth that will soon be ready to be matched.

Matches agree to meet 2x/month for 2-4 hours (mostly weekends) and make at least a yearlong commitment. Car and valid license required. Match support is provided by Clinical Match Specialists. The LGBTQ+ Program includes trainings and meetups. Volunteers of all religions, races, ethnicities, abilities, and backgrounds are welcome. Email Tania@JBBBS.org with any questions.

Here's information on the two children with immediate need:

Eden - 7 year old transgender girl, seeking 20-something transgender female mentor
Eden is a sweet and bright transgender girl (she/her) who lives with her wonderful family in the Brookline/Newton/Needham area. Eden is excited about simple pleasures like going to a candy store or getting pizza. She is open to many activities both inside and outside her home. She likes going to parks, playgrounds, and ice skating in winter. Eden likes to read books. She also enjoys playing board and card games like Chutes and Ladders, Uno and Sorry. Eden loves learning and going to her elementary school. She especially loves her teachers and is an engaged and happy student.

The best fit match would be a trans woman between the age of 21-27 who can provide support and boost Eden’s self-esteem as she transitions. Someone who is positive, creative, warm, kind, and enjoys being with children would be great. Eden is Jewish but family is open to a Jewish or not Jewish BIG!

Riley - 12 year old non-binary youth, seeking trans or non-binary mentor
Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Boston (JBBBS) is seeking an LGBTQ+ mentor in the Newton/Brookline area for Riley! Riley is a non-binary 12-year-old described as dynamic, creative, artistic, athletic, and compassionate. They are an “adrenaline junkie” interested in skiing and Ninja Warrior courses. They are a strong communicator, a loyal friend, and a deeply empathic person.

The best fit Big would be a transgender or non-binary adult (21+, ideally in their 20s or 30s) with a sense of humor who likes animals, architecture, music, and/or the arts. Riley hopes to be matched with a supportive mentor who can help them navigate a binary world and build a trans community.
