Anxiety about Illness and Death

Given the uptick of COVID variants and cases, children may be experiencing even greater anxiety about sickness and death. As a provider, you can help parents give children a clear and age-appropriate explanation of this crisis, and this may stop them from making up their own explanations, which can be scary or inaccurate. Being available and willing to answer specific questions from patients can also help children feel safe and express any lingering worries.

5 Little Ways to Teach Children to Think for Themselves

Every parent hopes to raise a kid who doesn't follow the crowd, but it can be easier said than done. Here's how experts say you can help your kid be their own person.

No one wants to raise kids to be followers who are unable to make their own decisions. In fact, when Claire Lerner, child development and parenting expert, asks parents if they want to raise kids who know what they want and can problem solve on their own, every single person raises a hand.

But teaching kids to think for themselves can be easier said than done. It's not just a skill that starts in elementary school or middle school. Teaching kids to think for themselves "starts earlier than parents might think," says Lerner.

Here are five little ways to help your kids think for themselves, starting when they're babies.

Grants and Funding Opportunities

LifeBoat 3

Clallam County government received American Rescue Plan funds from the Federal Government. The Board of County Commissioners allocated $3 Million to businesses and nonprofits in Clallam County to support those most impacted by the pandemic and those that had not received funding from state or other local programs.

The funds are being administered by the Clallam County Economic Development Council.

Recipients will be chosen by a Grant Selection Committee comprised of nine members appointed by the three cities, chambers, United Way and Center for Inclusive Entrepreneurship. Grants applications will be considered on a rolling basis.

Most awards will range from $5-$20,000, however in some circumstances awards will be greater if proof of impact and unique circumstances are identified.

Grant funds will be treated as income for IRS tax purposes.
