greatest Trifari rarities... patented Alfred Philippe Jelly Belly Airedale Terrier, one of the ultimate troika sled team of jelly belly dogs, joining the Pekingese and the Poodle already on site; ultimate rarity, patented Trifari Philippe Swallowtail Hummingbird, here only once before, rarest of the three patented Trifari Hummingbirds of early 1940; classic original Trifari Philippe Double Peas in the Pod Pin, now identified as part of Trifari's superb 1953 rhodium pearls and enamel collection; rarest of the Trifari Philippe Flower Basket pins, in Sterling, matching a mid 1942 patented series of Phoenix and Pheasant pins (and earrings, also on the update)..
Alfred Philippe's Trifari Jewels of India, here in two iterations, over a decade apart - patented 1949 Moghul Jewels Melon Cut Emeralds double pendant necklace ($48 at Marshall Fields in Chicago, that September) - superb mid 1930s signed KTF pave and tricolour navettes bracelet (matching a necklace in Brunialti) - stunning Reja Sterling Africana 1945 Witch Doctor pin clip, with strikingly clear advert, and rare Reja patent - gigantic Coro pave and invisibly set rubies star flower pin, characteristic late 30s Coro perfume pad receptacle, over 4 inches wide and an inch deep, only seen here once before (and also in the fine book of the Re Rebaudengo Collection exhibition, in Turin, in 2010-11)...
marvellous Mazer from the 1940s: pre-sterling 1938-42, charming mother duck and ducklings all in a row, now signed Mazer (here once before stamped only with the Mazer single non-serifed letter, further confirming that attribution, and others); Mazer snake chain necklace with amethyst bowknot and matching earrings. post sterling late 40s, superbly crafted. Classic Trifari: patented Philippe pave and enamel Lily of the Valley pin clip in red, with 1941 patent - spectacular 1971 Trifari Space Jewels pendant crystal globe earrings, with catalogue page, and charming Lord & Taylor advert from a year before, first version of the 'Space Jewels' series...
fascinating figurals - Coro's 50th Anniversary (1901-1951), invisibly set Crown pin, with advert from Harper's Bazaar, and patent - Trifari 1966 (still with Philippe as chief designer) Modern Mosaics Christmas Tree, in tricolour RGB, and advert from Scranton PA - stunning double pyramid deco dress clip duette, from the 30s in pink topaz, superb condition, with the Fielding and Whitaker patent - 1960s or later re-do of the patented Trifari Philippe Jelly Belly Angelfish, by Cathé of California...
and a focus on 1949 Trifari scatter pins - ultra-fashionable for all design houses that year, and produced then by Trifari in at least 4 series. Examples tonight from two of them: 1) the walking bird - this with a rare cabochon (usually with a faceted centre stone) - an advertised design, but from a patented series (including an elephant and a frog); 2) miniature Penguin and Hummingbird, both patented, from a cabochon series including a hatching chick, a Mocking Bird, and more. All, as the newly discovered adverts show for both series, sold for premium prices, for these tiny and precise creations...
