Hi Earthling,
What are your traditions for beginning a new year? Lots of us set intentions at this time -- we choose a word for the year, we draw an oracle card, we make vision boards or maybe even good old resolutions.
But how big is the vision we are naming? Does it include our beautiful blue-green world? The new year brings an excellent opportunity to consider how we relate to desire, and to look more deeply at personal yearnings.
The mystic poet Rumi says:
Who makes these changes?
I shoot an arrow right.
It lands left.
I ride after a deer and find myself
Chased by a hog.
I plot to get what I want
And end up in prison.
I dig pits to trap others
And fall in.
I should be suspicious
Of what I want.
When we sink past the layers of ego and personal will there is, at the core of our longings, an unbroken bond that sings to us in the wild language of soul. This is the language we must speak when we conjure our desires for the path ahead.
To make change requires energy, clarity, and a willingness to access a deeper connection to what Bill Plotkin calls your unique eco-niche here on Earth, your BELONGING to and within the web of life.
From this place of connection we can set a course that is informed and vitalized by our deep relatedness with the breathing cosmos. I feel that it is this level of transformation that we are called to engage at this time, and I hope you'll find a way to journey toward it as this new year unfolds.
