See these sunflowers?

I purchased them 8 days ago at Trader Joe’s for $4.99. They have provided me with 8 days of bright, yellow, vibrant joy every time I look at them. They brighten the room and my mood.

I don’t know about you, but I need access to joy any way I can get it these days. January is a long, cold month. It’s when we are forced to transition from the indulgent,  vacation mode of late December to the beast mode of our children's academic rigor and our own professional mountain of work. We are supposed to do it all while drinking kale smoothies, more exercise and plowing through our inboxes with a "can do" attitude.

However, COVID, and the current state of affairs have revealed an ugly truth that we must all contend with:

We are not really ok.
  • Mothers
  • Children
  • Elders
  • Coworkers
  • The Grieving
  • Marginalized

“Almost 70% of mothers say that worry and stress from the pandemic have damaged their health.” (NY Times)

This data point is a lightning rod. Let’s face it, almost none of us who identify as working mothers felt this role was equitable, valued, compensated, and smooth sailing pre-pandemic...right?

One of the most important leadership decisions we can all make right now is to invest in our own mental health like it’s our most important job, because, it is. Whether it’s seeking an evaluation for depression, anxiety,  grief,  parenting,  counseling for relationship challenges, or finding a support group that addresses a specific pain point in our life, we need to learn how to do something that doesn’t come easily for many of us:

Ask for help.

You will hear the theme of asking for help and investing in ourselves throughout the Voice + Visibility Women’s Summit. Our speakers, team, and community is one that values honest, inclusive, and holistic leadership. We are about getting real on how to overcome obstacles. The one's on the inside and the outside.

As you become the healthiest, strongest leader of your life, I send you sunflowers, the coveted superpower of asking for help and grace. Remember, the Tigress knows how to take care of herself, and..

We are stronger together.

Hope to see you at the Summit launching on 3.4.22.
